ROY ALLEN DEMPSTER
Roy was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Lily Dempster; his brothers, Omer, Ken and his twin brother Ray; and his sisters, Mary Spokes and Ellen Miles. He was also predeceased by his niece Dawn Tait; great-nephew Ryan Herritt and recently his great-niece Sherianne Harrison.
He leaves behind his brother Ken Dempster and his sister Rose Harrison along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Roy was a confirmed country boy and lived on the family farm in Grandview until he and his mother relocated to Winnipeg in the late 1950s.
Roy was born with Cerebral Palsy but with so many brothers, sisters and cousins, he was never left behind. He received his formal elementary education through correspondence, but throughout life was extremely well read and informed.
Once his mother passed away in 1978, Roy managed to live alone in their little house on Banning Street. Eventually, in 1998 he moved to a focus unit where he was able to receive more help.
Roy loved life and loved people and always looked on the bright side of everything. He had an incredible group of friends that spanned many years.
Roy was passionate about girls, horses, dogs and cars - although there is no agreement on the order of priority.
For the past 22 years, he attended Lions Place Adult Day Club and this was a highlight of his week.
The family wants to extend a special thank you to the amazing staff at Focus11 for their love and care for Roy.
The celebration of his life will be held Friday, August 21, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. If you wish to attend, please email Wayne Harrison with your name and phone number at mail@wayneharrison.ca as seating is limited due to Covid19 restrictions.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Manitoba Possible (formerly Society for Manitobans with Disabilities) or to MADD Canada.

I always enjoyed Roy, his positive attitude and laughter. I will always remember him and Aunt Lil from Banning, going to DQ, basketball games, dances and our long long phone calls. God bless him.. - Posted by: Angie Smith (Friend) on: Dec 24, 2020

I knew Roy from Lakeside Camp, the many monthly dances at SMD and recently at the Forks. He just never changed with age. He maintained his humor, wit, as well as his laughter. He once asked me, "Warren how many guys in a wheelchair can actually say that they own a horse??" A horse he visited many times in his life. I used to call Roy "Cowboy Roy". The man upstairs loved Cowboy Roy enough to allow him to be with us for 83 wonderful years. He was quite a guy. - Posted by: Warren Patterson (friend) on: Sep 02, 2020

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to Roy's family. I feel like a piece of me is missing. Roy and I were friends for twenty years and enjoyed many of the same things. In early years, we spent many hours wandering downtown Winnipeg. Our favorite place was the antique store at the Forks via the Riverwalk. Roy always amazed me with his wealth of knowledge and his outlook on life. He had my admiration and respect and I will miss him dearly. The one word that comes to mind when describing Roy is fun-loving. Despite his many challenges he always found reasons to laugh. We were friends for over 35 years. We hadnโt connected quite as often in recent years but he was a true friend, right from the time he lived on Banning. Rest In Peace Roy .... you deserve it. Love always - Posted by: Coralie Bornais (Long time friend) on: Aug 17, 2020

I met Roy at Lakeside Camp in Gimli, as the nurse there, In 1981, and we remained friends in Winnipeg for a few years. . I can still remember his fun quirky laugh, his gentle smile, his optimism, and caring nature. This cowboy will be dearly missed. He left a big impression on me as a new grad nurse. ๐๐๐ - Posted by: Anne Wolkenstein (Nurse at Lakeside Camp and friend) on: Aug 17, 2020
