VERNON GLENN DUNN

On Thursday, August 13, 2020, Vernon Glenn Dunn, loving father of three, passed away after a lengthy battle with COPD.
Vern was born in Winnipeg, MB on April 20, 1944 to Hugh and Leah (Randall) Dunn, the second eldest to six siblings. Vern grew up in Transcona, where, with former spouse Charleen (Still), they jointly raised their three children, Aron (Tamara), Shelley (Steve), and Christine (Doug). Vern pursued a short career at the railways, but his larger than life personality led him to several entrepreneurial ventures, including the Beaverdam Music Festival.
Vern's appreciation of music enlightened us all, and his charismatic nature and love of life earned him the love and respect of many. His closest and dearest friendships (Vic Franco, Stacey Finch, Erin Joyce) endured the test of time, and were filled with adventures, fishing and "no regrets".
Vern travelled the world extensively, falling in love with Costa Rica, where he spent over 17 winters, welcoming friends and family, returning home only when his illness got the best of him. But just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Vern managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible.
His love will live on through his three children; six grandchildren, whom he loved and cherished dearly; as well as his six great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his surviving siblings, Lyn (Dunn), Sheryl (Kehler) and Kim (Pachett).
It would be Vern's wish that any memorial contributions be made to the African Leaders of Tomorrow //africanleadersoftomorrow.org, a charity founded by Vern and his brother Lyn in 2007 to help orphans in Moshi, Tanzania.
A celebration of Vern's great life and adventures will be following, after Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted.

Many memories, laughs, and adventures from Beaver Dam to just having fun at Bird Lake. I don’t know if any of the family will receive this but please accept my condolences . • You have been such a big part of my life. You stepped in and stepped up every time I needed you. You saw the best in me and challenged me to achieve it. You showed me how to earn respect and how to walk away. You are solid as an oak pops, right to the end. I’m so grateful to have shared you with my growing family. There is a void in my days without you, but my heart is so full. I told Ray that if you close you’re eyes and think about Papa Vern you can feel his love. Love never goes away, you gave us a lifetime supply. LUL UUU xo - Posted by: Chasity Dunn (Grand daughter ) on: Aug 20, 2020

  • My Deespest Condolences to your Family, Vern ..... Hey Vern! I know we didn't really know each other. Maybe you knew me and I didn't really know you, I was too young. I would see you in my younger years while growing up. In my younger years, I knew you were a friend of the family and that's pretty much all that mattered to me. Throughout the years I realized you and my Dad were best friends and I truly respect that. I wish I could have friends like that! I wish I was not so young at the time, so I could have hung out with you and get to know you like my Dad does. Thanks for being there, Vern! Thanks for being a friend to the fam and thanks for Looking Out! I'm glad you were there.. See you later! ;) P.S.. ,hopefully we can get some more fishing done! I had a good time the last time we hung out and did some fishing! I would like to fish with you some more! If I would have known that was the last time, I wouldn't have taken it for granted.. - Posted by: Shayne Franco (Friend of the Family) on: Aug 19, 2020
