DOREEN SKILLEN

We are very saddened to announce the passing, on August 14, 2020, of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Doreen Skillen.
She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 2016, mother and father and her infant brother, and her loving Auntie Lorraine, sister-in-law Pat Hollingshead and son Kennith. She will be greatly missed and loved by her daughter Teresa and Ernest, her son John and Lisa, Steven, Peter and Elizabeth. Grand and great-grandchildren, Jaclyn, Danielle and Keith and great-grandson Michael, Cody and Rhia, Sarah and Mark, great-granddaughters, Aidan and Lily, and grandson Andy. She will be missed by her brother Glen and sister-in-law Dorothy. Raymond and Marjory Claydon. Charles and Ruth Ingles. Doreen had many nieces and nephews, especially Linda and Jerome Delp, whom she loved dearly.
She wants to thank Dr. Leylek and staff at the HSC CancerCare unit for the wonderful care that they gave her. And to Dr. Gillette, for being down to earth and very caring. Thank you to the home care nurses, especially Heidi, who came and took excellent care of Mom every day.
Doreen was a strong and caring lady who had worked in the food industry for many years and was followed by many workers who came to see her regularly for the wonderful meals she prepared for them. Mom touched many hearts along the way. She was always loving and giving with a soft shoulder and a listening ear to any that needed her. She was quick to share whatever she had with whomever needed it, as long as they appreciated it. Mom fought like a trooper through the last few months and we are very proud of her for such strength. She taught us how to be kind and loving children who grew into responsible adults. She was always there to offer guidance when life seemed to throw us curves. Mom's love of cutting the grass on her mini "Cadillac", flowers, and her garden brought her much happiness over the years, and many others that visited enjoyed them as well.
For those that knew Mom, they knew a woman of strength that did not share things that were meant for family and private. If you knew her, you knew her well, if you didn't know her, it didn't matter. May she find peace along the next part of her journey.
Thank you to Voyage Funeral Home for their kindness and care.

In the honest and wise words of Mom,
"Do not cry for me, but laugh because I lived."
