PETER KLEWCHUK
July 15, 1935 - August 15, 2020
Peter's story began on a rural farm near Hamton, Saskatchewan. He was born the second youngest of six children to John and Anna Klewchuk (nee Oystryk). He attended Oleskow School and when the family moved to Yorkton, he attended Simpson School and Yorkton Collegiate.
As a young man, he built many houses and buildings and learned the carpentry craft working alongside his dad. In the late 1950s he moved to Flin Flon where he met the love of his life, his beauty queen, Darlene. They married in 1962 and were blessed to have two daughters, Connie and Kim.
Peter was a proud graduate of the University of North Dakota and obtained his education degree in 1967. He taught industrial arts in Portage la Prairie and the St. Vital School Division (Dakota and Glenlawn Collegiates) for 38 years. He had fond memories of his students and the staff. He loved having breakfast on Fridays with his teaching/fishing buddies right up until the time he moved to Kelowna in 2012.
He could build and fix anything and his hands were always creating some new piece of furniture. A craftsman extraordinaire - he knew and cherished the value of a tree. He was a longtime member of St. Aidan's Anglican Church where he built a beautiful altar. Blessed with an incredible memory and a curious mind, he was always planning some adventure. He loved fishing, gardening, annual trips to Maui, Ukrainian culture and food, but most of all his family. We will miss his sense of humour, story telling, funny sayings, beautiful smile and the sound of the saw in the garage.
He is survived by his wife Darlene, daughter Connie (Allan), stepgrandchildren, Scott, Steven, Christa and their families; Kim (Randy) and granddaughters, Chloe and Nicola; Bonita Bedard who was like his third daughter; his sister Pearl Andrychuk, brother Tyrone Klewchuk along with numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
His earthly story ends but his heavenly journey begins no doubt twirling a hammer and of course wearing his sailor hat!
We are grateful to the Lord for his life and legacy.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date for close family and friends.

Peter was a valued member of the staff at Glenlawn, well respected by staff and students. He was easy-going, always cheerful. I think of him fondly each time I use my wooden potato masher. I grew up with a wood-turned masher and when my parents died, there were several of my sibs who wanted it. I asked Peter if he could help and I received three from him, smooth and ready for the job. Thank you, again. Peter. - Posted by: Victoria Olchowecki (fellow staff member at Glenlawn) on: Aug 28, 2020

Our family moved to a house two doors down from the Klewchuks shortly after they had moved onto the street. That was the beginning of many years of friendship with Peter and the rest of the family as we visited back and forth especially around Christmas. In all of this we found how friendly, caring and helpful Peter was not only with us but with his many friends and of course his own family. Two examples of his care and generosity were the gift of a wooden rocking horse which he made for our first grandchild and a pair of Muskoka chairs he made for us when we were leaving Winnipeg to live year round in our cottage/home in Ontario. Our thoughts and condolences to Darlene, Connie, Kim and the families. - Posted by: Hal and Marg Grunau (Neighbourhood friends ) on: Aug 27, 2020

I have been friends with Connie for over 50 years, we lived across the street from each other on Greendell. We played for hours in the beautiful A frame playhouse Mr.Klewchuk built in the back yard. Connie and I played the radio and sang to the top 20 for hours in the Klewchuk's new green Chrysler Newport. I enjoyed the delicious Ukrainian dishes Connie's wonderful Mother made who is a cook extraordinaire. Often Connie would call and say come over Dad and I are going on a slurpee run. Come on over Dad and I are going to the beach. Where ever the Klewchuks went I went, they treated me like a daughter and was always there for me. When the Klewchuk's moved to Fort Richmond my family moved out of town. How many times did Mr. Klewchuk pick me up and drive me home so Connie and I could stay friends. Their new home on Linacre was beautiful. Between the beautiful furniture Mr. Klewchuk made and the decorating Mrs. Klewchuk did it was a show home. I will always remember the sound of the saw running and the smell of fresh cut wood. I will always remember Connie and Kim begging their parents for a pool. As soon as the girls leave home for University a beautiful above ground pool was installed. I will always remember both Mr. and Mrs. Klewchuk saying how refreshing the pool was. I want to thank both Mr. and Mrs. Klewchuk, Connie and Kim for all their love and support over the years. I love you sincerely, Bonita Bedard - Posted by: Bonita Bedard (family friend) on: Aug 22, 2020

Our condolences to Darlene,Connie & Kim & family. We remember the great back yard neighbor he was in St. Vital. He was always a kind and happy person and willing to help when needed. He was usually looking for Kim who would sneak over to visit our animals but always with a smile on his face! We hope the memories you have will help you in this difficult time. Dear Darlene and family. I am saddened to hear of your loss. Peter was a wonderful, kind and thoughtful man. When I ministered to your mom, I remember him growing a bean stalk all the way up to the second floor window: just for her. What love he had shown! May Peter Rest In Peace in God’s eternity. Ive always wondered where Peter disappeared to. Peter was my favorite teacher at Glenlawn Collegiate. I remember his passion for his craft. He took me under his wing making numerous pcs. From an old tea wagon which ended up being a show piece at school to numerous other pcs like turning a bowl on the lathe. He was a great communicator and a great friend. RIP my friend. - Posted by: Daryle Kaskiw (Student) on: Aug 22, 2020

I have nothing but fond memories of dear Peter during the 4 years that I served at St. Aidan's. He was a genuine Christian gentleman and exuded warmth, kindness and genuineness. My love, sympathy and prayers go out to Darlene, Connie, Kim and the rest of the family. "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people,[b] and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.' And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Rest eternal grant unto Peter, O LORD: and let light perpetual shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
