MARTIN STANLEY ZIMMERMAN
June 23, 1945 - August 17, 2020
Born in Winnipeg, Martin was the cherished only son of Eve (Moldowan of Toronto) and Louis Zimmerman. He graduated from Kelvin High School and received BA and LLB degrees from the University of Manitoba. After graduating as a lawyer, Martin worked for CPR. He moved to Calgary in 1975 at the request of his boss who was transferred there.
A lifelong Progressive Conservative, Martin was passionate about politics, books and his three beloved rescue dogs: Snoopy, Heather and Jeremy. He enjoyed cooking steak to share with them. Martin was a sweet, good man with a generous, kind heart. To know him was to love him.
We are grateful for his presence in our lives and for the exceptional, loving care he received from the dedicated staff at Carewest where he spent his last six years.
Martin is survived by his four cousins, Manly Zimmerman (the late Jan) of Minneapolis, MN, Ron Zimmerman (Audrey) of Winnipeg, Penny Yellen (the late Barney) of Winnipeg and Lesley Shore of Toronto and their families.
Due to Covid-19, a graveside service for immediate family will be held at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery.

My deepest condolences to Martins family. I met Martin when he was admitted to our unit. He was an exceptional man. Smart, witty and loved sharing stories with me. When Martin was being admitted to the Fanning. He was devastated at losing Jeremy. Staff suggested I take Jeremy as I fostered dogs. It turned out I was able to bring Jeremy to see Martin. With that, I was able to take pictures of both. I put up so Martin could share stories and show residence his dog. When I got my own dog. I would visit Martin with him knowing it would bring smiles to him. Martin was liked by alot if residences especially Gail. They got along very well. Martin is surely going to be missed. Rest in Peace Martin Chris - Posted by: Christine (Caregiver) on: Aug 23, 2020

I met Martin as a teenager when we both volunteered for the Conservative Party. I remember him as a serious, shy young guy who loved politics and enjoyed law school. My condolences to his cousins Penny in Winnipeg and Lesley in Toronto. Ms Frankie Glickman Victoria BC - Posted by: Ms Frankie Glickman (Friend) on: Aug 22, 2020

I was sorry to hear the news about Martin passing away. We have not been in touch for many years but at one time we saw each other daily. Our friendship goes back to Junior High School at River Heights, then to Kelvin and University. Martin was 3 weeks younger than me. We were in Law School together and we both graduated in 1969. We were in the same Bar Mitzvah class at Shaary Zedek Synagogue and both of us were very poor singers according to Jack Garland and were not allowed to sing in the junior choir! - Posted by: Michael Ostfield (Old Friend) on: Aug 22, 2020
