STEPHEN CLAUDE FOSTER
December 19, 1951 - August 14, 2020
Stephen is survived by Shirley (his wife of 47 years), daughters, Jennie (Jamie) and Tracey, and his best "Buddy" Scooter. Stephen was predeceased by his mother Marion in 2007 and father Fred in 2009.
Stephen was born and lived his entire life in Winnipeg. He worked with Canada Post and it was there that he met many lifelong friends. He truly enjoyed working as a letter carrier. He retired in 2011 after 35 years of service.
Stephen had many loves and interests but first and foremost was his family, especially his daughters. He was so proud of them. He always enjoyed music and played his guitar daily and loved "band" practice. Sports, especially the Habs, were a huge part of his life. He golfed at least twice a week and recently got an Eagle which made him very happy.
West Hawk Lake has always been a special place. He enjoyed being there with family and friends and was always ready to go fishing, hoping to catch the "big" one.
Stephen coached both his daughters in softball and also coached boys hockey. He put his whole heart into these activities and felt coaching was very rewarding.
It is no surprise that when he retired, Stephen started to work with the City of Winnipeg in their Learn to Skate programs, Skate Patrol and the Skating Program at Dufferin School. He had found a new passion and he excelled in it, absolutely loved working with the kids.
Stephen particularly loved Newfoundland. He had been there at least eight times and planned to return. He felt the pull of the ocean and loved the people and the land.
Cremation has taken place and according to Stephen's wishes, there will not be a funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
Our hearts are broken, you were our strength and the core of our family. Laugh at the confusion, smile through the tears be strong and keep reminding yourself that everything happens for a reason.
We Love You Daddy-O Always and Forever.

I was looking through the condolences and my post must not have gone through. So sad to hear of Rock's passing. Completely shocked. You always think you have time to see someone again. Rock made work fun. Great sense of humour. I'm so sorry for Shirley and your family. We got to go camping a few times with the Fosters out at West Hawk Lake. I remember finding his spot and he was showing me around the campground and his camper, and we went outside and he stopped what he was doing, grabbed a chair and a beer and sat down at the end of the lot and watched a husband and wife pulling in the camper to their spot. "Get a chair and a beer and enjoy." I couldn't figure out what he was doing. He said "sit down and watch." So we sat there as the couple started trying to back up the camper to their spot. He says, "just watch. This is some good entertainment. They look like it'll be a good show." The husband is backing up the camper and the wife is directing him. Well, what a show, I can hear Rock start giggling. "This is the best part, watching couples get set up. Just wait." After about 10 minutes, the husband comes flying out of the truck, yelling at his wife about her style of directing him where to go. She starts yelling back and storms off and he is left by himself to back up the camper. Rock gets up and says, "She'll be back, it's just intermission." I asked if we should help him back in. "Are you kidding? Round 2 will start when she gets back." I guess my favourite memory was our postie trip to Montreal, my first time at our favourite team's arena and he showed me around as we watched the mighty Habs play. Nothing but good memories hanging out with Rock. He'll be missed. - Posted by: Rob Carson (Friend co-worker) on: Feb 23, 2021

Steve was a lot of fun to be around every time one saw him. I feel very fortunate to have met him and have some good times.....he was a real character. Never saw a mean bone in Steve. His work ethic is something to be admired, he never ever shirked his duties at the PO and took pride in his efforts. Lots of stories over the years and am proud to be a part of a few. So long old friend. - Posted by: Jack Christian (Co-worker, hockey buddy and golf buddy) on: Aug 24, 2020

My condolences to the family of Stephen, there will be a lot of sad public skate participants when they come to skate and not see his happy smile at the arena. He had many friends and children that enjoyed his energy and good nature at the rink. He will be very sadly missed. - Posted by: Fernando Requeima (Supervisor of Public Skate Program ) on: Aug 24, 2020

Sincere condolences. He was a character at the depot. Gave me and my bike a lift once when I'd just started was running late for work. Such a nice guy, but he tried to hide it. A real shock. He seemed so active and healthy. Terribly sorry for your loss. - Posted by: gabe (co-worker) on: Aug 24, 2020

My deepest condolences to Shirley, Jennie, Jamie and Tracey there are no words to describe the shock about Steve's passing. I have so many fond memories of Steve that I will keep close in my heart. Steve was a great husband, father and friend. I met Shirley back in 1984 and shortly after met Steve and that's where the friendship started. We many good times together playing baseball and I remember many birthday parties for the girls and how he made it fun. His memory will live on in all of those who Steve. Rest in peace my friend⤠- Posted by: Lynne McGibney (Family Friend) on: Aug 24, 2020

We were co-workers of the ROCK, he was always there to tell jokes and pick on us cause we worked in Depot Q. He had a heart of gold even if he was a Habs fan. What we remember most of Steve is that he was always the last to lose the summer uniform, he wore shorts into the deep part of December. His reason was simple, to show off his sexy legs. R.I.P. My friend you will be missed by all who knew you. Condolences to the family he always talked about you. - Posted by: Kevin & Teresa Davis (Co-worker @ Canada Post) on: Aug 23, 2020

Condolences to Steveās family and all whoās lives were touched by him. So sorry to hear of his passing. How many times I heard āItās not Steve, itās The Rockā. Always willing to offer a helping hand, you only needed to ask. He may have grumped about it but that was to give you a hard time, never kept him from pitching in-his truck didnāt go to the dump, though. Took up golf not because he loved it but because he loved going out with the boys (and girls). A truly unique character. We will miss him. - Posted by: Kirby Pratt (Co-worker) on: Aug 23, 2020
