Gerry was an immensely caring and loving father and husband who never stopped teaching his children the value of hard work, determination and to just be yourself. He was always there for those he loved with an encouraging word of wisdom or a listening ear when you needed it most. Dad was always one with a sense of humour that had a way of making anyone laugh.
He loved his family and the church. He enjoyed looking after the church yard. This was something that he was passionate about and took great pride in. He was a well-respected man in the church family and never lost faith during his journey.
He deeply loved his wife Irene and their children, Rob (Vanessa), Dave (Bambe), Paul, Amanda, Steve and Khris, and his grandkids, Carter, Annie and Danica.
Gerry was born in Moosomin, Saskatchewan and grew up on his family's farm near Manson, Manitoba where he learned family values, hard work and love of God from his mom and dad. His sister Edith remembers how their parents said it was such a delight to have a boy after having all girls. He loved his first motorcycle and had a Honda bike later in life from his son Rob. He moved to Winnipeg at 17 to look for a job in the city. He recently retired from Western Grocers after many years with the company and continued on with his own side business of lawn care and snow removal. He was very meticulous on his client's yards, and despite always working hard he always found time to chat.
To neighbours he was the friendly old man with the crazy beard who would hook you in with a long conversation about whatever topic and keep you there and you wouldn't want to end the conversation even if you were running late.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. James Johnston, who has been such an amazing caring doctor who went above and beyond for Dad. A special thank you goes out as well to nurse Irena, and all the nurses at HSC, with a special shout out to Nurse Kristina who Dad called an angel.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)
Dear Irene and family, I am so sorry to hear of Gerry’s passing. A much loved man and a man of goodness and honour who loved his lord and saviour, his family and others. I watched his service on line and the boys did such a wonderful job with the words that they shared about their father. I am remembering you all in my prayers, that God give you peace and strength today and tomorrow. Warm hugs to you all. Our deepest condolences to Amanda and family. Although we did not know Gerry, his daughter Amanda has been good friends with our daughter Kendra for many years. Know that our thoughts are with you. Hugs. The Tod Family - Posted by: sue tecter (Friend) on: Aug 23, 2020
My condolences to Irene and the family. I only wish I could attend the funeral but Covid 19 restricted me from doing so. Gerry was a very friendly neighbour who would always take time to help me out. He even drove me to the hospital when I needed it the most. He was the type of person that would take his shirt off his back to help you out and I am truly appreciative. Rest in peace Jerry. I'll miss you. - Posted by: Bill McCausland (Neighbour) on: Aug 22, 2020
