EDWARD KULBABA

Peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2020, Ed passed away after a long battle with Parkinsons.
Ed is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gerri, daughters, Sherri Pelletier and Linda (Dave) Storoschuk, grandchildren, Dustin (Jesse), Derrick, Nick (Coco) and Gaby, his sisters, Edna, Ethel and Verna and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Ella, his sister Pearl and his brother Nick.
Ed was born in Sandhill, Manitoba, one of six children growing up on a farm near Beausejour. He moved to Winnipeg for high school and graduated from West Kildonan Collegiate. He met his wife Gerri and married on October 15, 1960. He made a career with MTS retiring in 1992 at the age of 56. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball, bowling and curling. He ran in his first Manitoba Marathon at the age of 43, running nine marathons in total.
His grandkids were his pride and joy, and he enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible which meant travelling all over Manitoba and into the USA to do so. Ed and Gerri enjoyed travelling with family and friends, from East to West in Canada, South to Phoenix and Vegas, and to their favourite winter destination, Hawaii. Ed enjoyed spending summers tending to his always abundant vegetable garden.
Ed was always willing to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it. Whether it was being a regular blood donor or volunteering with softball at Garden City Community Centre and eventually helping run the socials. He volunteered with the Hawkeyes football organization and as a telephone Pioneer (retired MTS employees) continuing with the many volunteer activities they managed. He helped his kids with home projects and renovations, as well as many new home builds. His sons-in-law, Dave and Morris could not have accomplished what they did without Ed's support, drive and amazing work ethic. Most times they had trouble keeping up to him. He couldn't sit still and many people remember always seeing him out on his walks around the neighbourhood.
It has been months since Ed has passed and since the times still prevent a large gathering, it has been decided to hold a private, small Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 29, 2020 with immediate family only.
Our family would again like to thank the staff at Concordia Place Personal Care Home, where Ed spent the last two and a half years. Thank you for taking good care of not only Ed, but us as well.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkinson Canada.
