SYLVIA MARIE ADELE KOHUT
(nee THIBERT)
January 19, 1935 – August 25, 2020

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sylvia, aged 85, at Riverview Health Centre on August 25, 2020.
Sylvia was predeceased by John, her loving husband of 50 years, in 2007, as well as her parents and eight siblings. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Monique and Douglas Bailey, and grandsons, Dakota and Tristan, as well as siblings, Laurie (Yvette), Agnes (Reg), and Ron (Pat), sisters-in-law, Mary-Lynne, Marg, Marion, and brothers-in-law, Boris (Jean) and Walter (June), along with many nieces and nephews. Sylvia also leaves behind cherished lifelong friends, Sylvia and Adam Romanchuk, Terry and Eric Hagenstein, as well as many new wonderful friends made through Agape Villa and the Prairie Pearls.
Sylvia was born and raised in St. Boniface, Manitoba. She was always beautifully attired, amazingly organized, and timelessly classy. She made a beautiful home for John and Monique, filled with a lifetime of collections, furniture, art, photos and memories from day to day life, and their many travels to Europe. Sylvia was educated at St. Mary's Academy and later obtained a Management Certificate from the University of Manitoba. Sylvia proudly held a management position with Eaton's Canada for most of the 1960s, where she oversaw a large staff in the Housewares Department, before moving on to Canadian Tire and Seven Oaks School Division.
Sylvia continued to travel with her family in her later years and cherished her casino trips with friends. Above all else, her pride and joy in life were her two grandsons.
As per her wishes, there will be no formal service.

Rest in peace Mom, Grandma,
sister, friend - we love you.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Monique, Doug, and family. Your Mom and grandmom was a very special lady who left behind many memories and helped shape a number of students. I was an elementary teacher at Ecole James Nisbet who treasured having Sylvie as an invaluable assistant. During our time together, we had to create our own teaching materials and Sylvia could be counted on to take the ideas and produce high quality top notch products. I enjoyed working alongside Sylvia. No task was ever too small for her and she always did so with a spring in her step. Sylvia made teaching a joy with her lovely smile and excellent command of the French language. Je t' aimes ma belle Sylvia. - Posted by: Louise Moreau (Former Colleague) on: Dec 22, 2020

  • My late Husband and I lived just around the corner (at Agape Villa) from Sylvia and John for many years, before I moved to the 4th floor. My deepest sympathy to her family. - Posted by: Ellora Hart (Friend) on: Aug 29, 2020

  • While working at Canadian Tire with Sylvia I had an Aloe Vera makeup party, approximately 15 ladies, Sylvia agreed to be the makeup model. Everyone at the party agreed she was a true 10 with or without makeup, my condolences to her family.
