The first time i met Merv was while on summer vacation in the late sixties, riding along with my Pops. That red Dodge cabover Merv owned on Lakehead freightways has stuck in my memory as I recall him and my Pop racing back and forth with each other trying to see who had the fastest truck. They both had 250 hp Cummins, so it was pretty even matched, but they loved to tease each other about who had the most power. Everytime they stopped for coffee, it was joke and story telling time. What a great role model Merv was to a young fellow who wanted to be a trucker. Merv's laugh and smiling face always made you glad to sit at the truckstop table and listen to him and the other truckers enjoy each others company. Rest in Peace Merv, and say hi to my Pops. - Posted by: Peter Polet (friend) on: Aug 29, 2020
