CARL ROBERT BALLEGEER
June 8, 1980 - August 23, 2020

With broken hearts, we are saddened to announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, son, brother and uncle, Carl Ballegeer.
Carl is survived by the love of his life, his loving wife, Sherry Ballegeer (Ernest); his parents, Marie McCall (Eddie McCall) and Gerald Ballegeer; his brothers, Chris (Nicole, Violet, Lily, Ella), Jason (Chantel, Scarlett); his in-laws, Robert and Sharon Ernest, sisters-in-law, Carrie Lachance (Kevin, Dylan, Kayden, Cassidy), Jodi Tremblay (Brandon, Justin, Calum), and brother-in-law Robert Tremblay.
Carl was predeceased by his grandparents, Annette and Fernand Bessette and Arsene Ballegeer.
Carl was born in Winnipeg, MB at the St. Boniface Hospital on June 8, 1980. He was raised in Ste. Anne, MB where he spent most of his childhood. Midway through elementary school, his family moved to Lorette, MB where he met his lifelong childhood friend, Dwayne Ammeter. From there on, Carl made countless friends with whom he still shared friendships with. Carl made many more friends through his love of high school basketball. One in particular that he had a very close, long lasting relationship with is Jesse Crowder. Among his many friends, Andy Waite was also a big part of Carl's life; a true friend.
When Carl was in grade eleven his life would change when he met the love of his life, Sherry. Carl and Sherry had a love like no other. In 2004 they were married in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where they would travel back to for many years to come. Carl and Sherry loved to travel and did so every winter since they were married. Another one of Carl's greatest loves were their two dogs, Bella and Coco.
Carl attended Red River College where he would obtain his Red Seal as a Journeyman sheet metal worker. Throughout his career, Carl made countless friends in his field.
In his spare time, Carl enjoyed golfing, basketball and spending weekends at the lake.
Carl was a true friend. An absolute stand-up guy. An honest and straightforward man of great character. He had a heart of gold, was the life of the party, had the biggest smile in the room and the best moves on the dance floor. He was truly one of a kind.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at the St. Boniface Hospital, ICU. The comfort and care that they offered will forever be appreciated beyond measure. Among the many doctors and nurses in the unit, the family would like to specifically thank ICU nurses, Christina and Hazel.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Carl's memory to: winnipeghumanesociety.ca

Until we meet again, my love
On the beach across the sky
Forever in my heart, you'll be
So this is not goodbye

Condolences & Memories (15 entries)

  • I met Carl in high school. He was known to be a sweet and innocently flirty guy with a great sense of humour. He always had a smile on his face. I was so shocked and saddened of him being taken away so young and so quickly. Prayers of comfort to all of the close friends and family. May be walking with our Lord in heaven. - Posted by: Rhonda Hudon (Friend from highschool) on: Sep 04, 2020

  • I met Carl in Grade 9 at Lorette Collegiate. We quickly became friends as we played basketball together and hung out on a regular basis. After high school, we lived together and always had good times at “Gretzky on Ulster” close to the U of M. Carl always made everyone laugh and smile. There wasn’t anyone that had the same positive and fun attitude that Carl had. It was always great to see Carl whenever I could. He was the type of person that you wanted to hang out with and always had a great time with. The world needs more people like Carl. Until next time Tino, you will be missed. <3 - Posted by: Marc Perreault (Friend) on: Sep 02, 2020

  • Deepest condolences to the family. Heaven has a master sheet metal worker. Your friend from Russel Metals. - Posted by: Chad Kissack (Friend) on: Sep 01, 2020

  • I was so sorry to hear of Carl’s passing and wanted to offer my condolences to Chris & Jason & their family, as well as Sherry, as I used to be the three boys’ Schoolbus driver “back in the day”. You boys were always very respectful, friendly and kind and always had a smile for me as you got on the bus on the 206. It’s been quite a few years since I’ve seen you guys, but I can see that Carl had a huge impact on many people’s lives and will be so sadly missed. Sherry, I had the pleasure of meeting you in your beautiful home last winter...how my heart goes out to you in the loss of the sweet love of your life!! My thoughts & prayers are with you all at this very sad time..😢❤️ - Posted by: Monica Pytel (Former Schoolbus driver) on: Sep 01, 2020

  • Carl may have been our little brother but we all looked up to him. We will miss you. - Posted by: Jason Ballegeer (Brother) on: Sep 01, 2020

  • We would normally try and be poetic or try and offer reasoning for what has happened but there are no words meaningful enough to properly express how we feel about this devastating loss. Carl was a standup guy as stated and will be missed by many. I got to play basketball with Carl and his buddies and we always had fun, occasionally we even won a game. The drive to the gym was always enjoyable and full of laughs. In addition, Carl and Sherry always made the extra effort to visit with us at Carrie and Kevin’s when we were home. Many laughs were had together and we will miss that. We will most definitely raise a glass to Carl on our next visit. To Sherry, if you need anything please feel free to reach out. Thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Keith & Cindy Richard (Friends) on: Aug 30, 2020

  • We met when Carl and Sherry were looking at the property next door and became friends. We enjoyed working together on projects around our houses and yards. I can't say enough about how Carl and Sherry helped me when my wife passed a year ago. You will be truly missed and forever in my memory. - Posted by: Bill Burbank (neighbour and friend) on: Aug 30, 2020

  • I met Carl in grade 9 when he and Sherry met in high school. The three of us did so so much together and stayed close well into adulthood. The last decade has separated me from our circle of friends but I always remember and miss everyone. My heart shattered when I heard the news of his passing. For Sherry, his family, Dwayne and Sherry's family. If you read this you guys I love you all hugs to all of you. And Sher... I can't tell you how many times I have pictured Carl's dance moves, told the story of willy Billy and Bob, mostly when the huge fish jumped between me and you and Carl and he screeched like a girl and almost beat me out of the water, or the time before we had our licenses and my dad borrowed his car for Carl to drive. We had gone to a concert and on the way home he wore my dad's sunglasses and ended up turning the wrong way on a one way and again screeched so loud, so many incredible memories. Seeing you guys in the parking lot last year will forever be burned into my memory I was so happy to see you guys, never imagined that would never happen again. I love you girl, I loved Carl dearly love and hugs to you I am so very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Shelley samborski (Friend) on: Aug 30, 2020

  • I want to pass on my deepest sympathies to Sherry, and everyone who loved Carl. I didn't know him too well, but I can see what an amazing soul he was. I wish I had words to ease the pain. The two of you had a love story that many will never experience in their lifetime. I'm so sorry you didn't share it on this Earth longer, but I know you will always be part of each other forever. Wishing you comfort at this time. - Posted by: Carley (Friend) on: Aug 29, 2020
