MARIA (MARY) BORN
(nee DUECK)
1929 - 2020
Her memory will be forever cherished by her children, Brian (Bev), Darlene (John), Gery (Sheree), Brenda and Jim (Heather); grandchildren, Andrea (Jonathan), George, Brandon (Michelle) and Brittany; great-grandchildren, Lia and George; sister Betty; sisters-in-law, Elsie, Shirley and Jean; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Bill, who passed in 2015. They were married for 62 years.
Mom was born in Altona, Manitoba on June 17, 1929. She worked very hard on the family farm doing chores including milking cows, working the fields and cooking food for a hungry household. In 1948 the family moved to Paraguay in hopes of a better life but it did not pan out that way. When Mom's father passed away in South America, the family moved back to Southern Manitoba. This was great for Mom because she could rekindle the relationship she had with her sweetheart Bill. Mom and Dad married November 25, 1951. Mom was a devoted, loving wife and mother. Both Mom and Dad were devout Christians and active members of Morrow Gospel Church.
As a loving wife and mother, Mom enjoyed life's simple pleasures, such as the companionship of family and friends. She loved cooking up a Mennonite storm and you can be assured that nobody left her table hungry. She was known to generously give her homemade goods to neighbours in need.
No words can express how dearly she will be missed. We would like to thank the staff at the Victoria Hospital 4th floor, for their kindness and compassion during Mom's last few weeks.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a small service (by invitation only) will be held at Morrow Gospel Church. This service will be available by live streaming on Voyage Funeral Home's website at www.voyagefuneralhomes.com on Thursday, September 3 at 10:45 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Morrow Gospel Church of Siloam Mission.

Aunt Mary was a light hearted, good natured; generous woman who always welcomed my husband and myself into her kitchen, when we visited from Ontario, to see my mother. She loved board and card games and later jigsaw puzzles. But cooking might have been her greatest passion, sharing the fruits of her labours with any and all who entered her kitchen. Growing up in Manitoba as young children, my brother and I knew uncle Bill and Aunt Mary, as well as another favourite aunt and uncle, as part of a close knit family friendship with our parents, that endured over the years. Aunt Mary will be so missed. Sincerest condolences to all the wonderful surviving children. - Posted by: Myrna Markovich (niece) on: Sep 01, 2020

I have missed seeing Mary in church. Loved when she was a greeter on Sunday mornings. She (and Bill) made people feel very welcome. She will be missed by her church family. To her family, we loved your Mom and will continue to pray for you as you adjust to life without her. - Posted by: Ginny Thiessen (Friend from Morrow Gospel) on: Sep 01, 2020
