Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or Memory
ROBERT ARTHUR SCHMIDTKE
Rob was predeceased by his father Horst Schmidtke.
Left to cherish his memory are: his wife Sheri, his son Riley and his daughter Cali. He will also be deeply missed by his mom Tusnelda Schmidtke, his brothers, Rudy (Barb) and Richard (Jennifer), his nieces and nephews, Derek (Katrice Kazmerik), Jessie, Christina (Mike Hopkins) and April. There are too many other family and friends to mention but we know he touched the lives of many others.
Rob loved life to the fullest, especially his time spent with family and friends at the cottage, on the rink or at the golf course. He was always trying to make those around him smile and laugh, and he always succeeded.
Rob was born on February 3, 1969, to Horst and Tusnelda Schmidtke. He grew up in East Kildonan and spent much of his time playing sports, his favourites being hockey and golf.
He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and went to work alongside his dad at Dormond Industries. Later, his brother Richard joined the family business and the two of them worked side by side until Rob's passing.
In 1991 Rob met the love of his life Sheri and on September 4, 1993 they got married. They had Riley in 1998 and Cali in 2001.
Rob's greatest passion was his family and he always made Riley and Cali's activities a priority. No matter what Rob did or where he went, he always wanted Sheri by his side. He was honest, kind, loving and hard working. Not only was Rob an amazing husband, father, brother and son but he was a beloved role model and a man of strong faith. He has left us with such a profound loss that it is hard to find words. But we take great comfort in knowing that his last day on earth was spent at the cottage doing the things he loved. We know he has gone on to be with his dad and that he has joined the master carpenter Jesus. Until we meet you again on the streets of gold, we will cherish our memories and hold them so very dear in our hearts.
We thank God for his nephew Derek and his wife Dr. Katrice Kazmerik, and their friends, Dr. Ryan Vidal and Dr. Ingrid Baragar who were with us at the cottage when Rob passed, working tirelessly to try and save him.
Thank you to our friends, family, pastors and co-workers who have surrounded us with your thoughts, prayers and love.
Family and friends can join us virtually to celebrate Rob's life on Friday, September 4 at 11:00 a.m. on the Peace Lutheran Church Winnipeg YouTube channel or visit: peacelc.com for a link to the service.

Schmidtke Family: It was a very shocking and sad day yesterday to call Dormond and learn of the sudden passing of Rob who I have spoken to so many times over the years. We have been customers of Dormond since the 80's and always felt it was like calling a good friend when talking to Rob. Sincerest condolences to Richard, staff, friends, and to Rob's entire family who are dealing with the loss of such a precious, wonderful person. Sending our sincere condolences to Sheri, Mrs Schmidtke and family. So sorry to hear of Rob's passing. Rob was my teammate every year from peewee to junior hockey. We commuted to university and went on annual fishing trips when we were younger. I have so many fond memories of time with Rob. Just a "top shelf" guy. He will be deeply missed. - Posted by: Paul & Jacquie Tustin (Friend) on: Sep 06, 2020

I want to pass on my sincerest condolences to all of Rob's family, his passing is truly a great loss to all of us that had the privilege and pleasure of getting to know him. I originally met Rob as a business supplier for the Millwork but even from our original meeting I was welcomed as a friend. It didn't take long for a friendship to build, but that's the way he treated people. Before long I was a part of his Millwork family and that is how he treated everyone there like family. We always had some great fishing stories to tell each other, show off some pictures and have some great laughs. Rob will be dearly missed by so many of us, one day on the other side we will see who is really catching the whoppers and laughing at who got small one. Miss you Rob - Posted by: Wayne Chambers (Friend) on: Sep 04, 2020

I am shocked to hear about Rob's passing and offer deepest condolences to Rob's family from me and mine. I met Rob through hockey (Royal Knights) and would run into him from time to time later in life at hockey rinks, at the ODR at North Kildonan CC and at his business when we discussed roofing issues there... I will remember Rob was always being active and upbeat and one of the nicest people I have ever met. God bless and RIP Rob... - Posted by: Rich Gillis (Friend/Team Mate) on: Sep 04, 2020

Our sincere condolences to Sheri, Riley and Cali for your loss. Our hearts also ache for the remaining family members that journeyed with Rob through life. I did have the occasion to chat with Rob at the shop over the years through return visits to Winnipeg. Yes! He impressed me as a very capable, happy, caring person. Rob, God bless you. The staff of R.L. Cushing Millwork in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan were saddened and shocked to hear the terrible news of Rob's passing. We have been customers as long as Dormond Industries has been around, and knew Rob and the family going back to the days when Horst would personally stop to visit us during family trips, leaving his wife and family waiting in the car as he talked business. Like his father, Rob was excellent at his craft and a very good man. We will miss him. Our condolences to all the family. - Posted by: R.L. Rudy, my heart goes out to you and your family at the Homecoming of Rob, Reading about his life well lived, his deep love for his family and friends, and his faith in Jesus is such an inspiration. I pray for comfort and peace, for a coming together to grieve the loss and celebrate the life of your dear brother. And may this be a thin place where we all gather together and catch a glimpse of our glorious future in Christ. Our hearts are warmed by the certainty of the reunion Rob and Horst are having, and we shall all experience as His followers. - Posted by: Doug McLachlin (Rudy's colleague at AECOM) on: Sep 04, 2020

My entire family (Bernie Jr and Sr, Tracy, Colton, Kaidyn and Cindey) are shocked by the passing of yes one of the good ones. I knew Rob for over 30 years. Hockey brought us together. Rob and I played on the same hockey line for around ten years. The line needed speed and grit, not just a good smile and nice teeth. That was Rob. Awesome hockey player. When hockey is done you kind of go your separate ways. Meet the love of your life and have kids. Well wouldn't you know the Schmidtke and Paseluikho's would reunite through our kids Riley and Colton. I am sure the hockey guys are all shocked and sick over the news. Its tough. Its not fair. Why. This is not the first good friend lost too soon. Thanks for all the memories Rob. You have a beautiful family and we are there for them. See you on the other side some day. Just pass me the puck..... - Posted by: Bernie Paseluikho (Friend) on: Sep 03, 2020

Sheri, Riley and Cali- we know that there are no words that will comfort your profound sadness but know that you are in our thoughts and have been in our prayers. May Jesus be your strength and peace when nothing else makes sense. May you feel and embrace the love of your family and friends during this season of grief. Sheri our hearts cry with yours. - Posted by: Charlene Epp (friend and Neighbour) on: Sep 03, 2020

We have fond memories of time spent with the whole Schmidtke family over many years, and with seeing Rob and Richard in 2018 when we were visiting Winnipeg. Rob always had a smile and a kind word to say. Our deepest sympathies go to Sheri, Riley, Cali and the entire family at this difficult time. We regret that it is not possible to travel at present but in our hearts we will be with you and will always remember. - Posted by: Harry & Sylvia Haywood-Monk (Friends) on: Sep 03, 2020

So shocked and sad that Rob has passed. He was a great teammate when we were younger and then our children became teammates as we became older. In all those years Rob never changed. Great sense of humor, always had a story and always was willing to listen. Every time we met up we caught up right where we left off. Just a wonderful gentleman that will be really missed to all who knew him. RIP Rob - Posted by: Guy Burr (friend ) on: Sep 03, 2020

Lexington has been a vendor to Dormond for many years and Rob was always enjoyable to chat with and to do business with. A few words to describe our relationship....... enjoyable, respectful, mutually beneficial, loyal and fun. I was so impressed with all of Rob's accomplishments both personal and professional after reading the obituary. Such a solid and committed person in the office and away from the office. I went to school with Rob from Kindergarten to to graduation. He was always a kind talented guy. I remember when he got drafted by the Wheat Kings. Any other young man would be thinking of million dollar contracts, etc. Not Rob. He had his plan. Go to university the work with his father. I also know how excited he was when the family purchased the Pachanga boat (which I’m told is still around). I was never the athlete Robbie was, but we always talked and found things in common. It doesn’t sound like he’d changed much. Godspeed Rob - Posted by: Scott Hughes (Friend) on: Sep 03, 2020
