CAROLINE ANN SHIRLEY KIRKPATRICK
(nee FILBERT)
Born: July 30, 1936
Date of Passing: September 2, 2020

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Caroline on the evening of September 2, 2020, at Parkview Place Care Home.
Caroline was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Katie Filbert; and six brothers and sisters. She leaves to mourn her passing husband Robert (they being one month short of their 54th wedding anniversary), son Iain (Marilyn) and grandchildren, Robbie, Marian and Catriona, brother-in-law Ron, nieces Connie (Jim) and Linda (Elliot), who have offered much great love and support, other nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and a great-nephew, Mary (Robert's cousin).
In her younger years Caroline attended Robertson Memorial Church and her lovely voice led to her being invited to sing at many wedding services.
She was one of the first people in Winnipeg to buy a Volkswagen Beetle, powder blue. When she took it home to show her father, he told her it should not be parked on the road, it should be in it's kennel!
Caroline was employed by the Winnipeg School Division No. 1 as a school secretary working in elementary schools and at Gordon Bell High School and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. She was secretary at Wellington School, Robert's first appointed school when he arrived from Britain in 1962.
Following marriage, she worked for two years for Pan American in Churchill, followed by a year spent in England where Robert was teaching.
On return to Canada and settling in St. James, beloved son Iain was born. She was a wonderful mother and gave much time supporting various activities, particularly band, in his three schools.
Family gatherings with laughter, singing and good food were always appreciated. Long phone chats, too, in her spare time.
Her passing leaves a huge void in the hearts of those who loved her.
A very special thanks to the staff at Parkview where she was a resident for over seven years. The wonderful nursing and floor care combined with their love and compassion most certainly added years to her life. She really appreciated the quick chats when carrying out duties in her room. They had to be "quick" since everyone was so very busy! Being bedridden, those times were so important to her. Some even gave her the occasional chance to practice her singing.
The loving emergency care at the time of her passing was so much appreciated. Thank you everyone.
Cremation has taken place and following Caroline's wishes there will be no service.

  • Rest in peace dear Caroline. You were one of the stalwart pioneers in the clerical team that open the first Library Service Centre for Winnipeg School Division in 1965-75. We appreciated your fine sense of humour, you conscientious work ethic, and your caring attitude to other people. IF that Robbie hadn't come and stolen you away, we would have enjoyed many more years together. But then school work was more fun, that producing that mountain of library cards, wasn't it. Heartiest condolences to all the family. Gerald R. Brown, Chief Librarian (Retired 1992) - Posted by: Gerald R. Brown (Co-worker) on: Sep 12, 2020
