WERNER DAXINGER
September 11, 1941 - August 22, 2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Werner Daxinger on August 22, 2020, at Poseidon Care Centre in Winnipeg. He was born in Steyr, Austria on September 11, 1941, to Franz and Rosa Daxinger and is survived by his brothers, Oswald (Christine), Ernst (Greti), and niece and nephew, Andrea and Werner from Austria. He will also be missed by his friends and family from both Canada and Europe.
Werner began his training for his career in the Hotel Industry in Linz, Austria and then Brussels, Belgium. He had the great fortune of working in the Imperial Hotel in Vienna, followed by positions in London, Paris and the Caribbean. His career spanned many countries and what he initially believed to be a short stay in Canada in 1970, lasted 50 years.
Werner's love of nature and wildlife led him to purchase his cottage at Glen Bay on Lake Winnipeg where he spent many years fully enjoying the benefits a Manitoba summer offered.
He was an active participant in the German Society of Winnipeg, where he regularly dined Thursdays and Saturdays and volunteered every year at Folklorama. Werner was a kind and gentle man whose joy was his family in Austria, whom he visited annually until these past two years when his health began to decline.
We would like to thank the staff at Poseidon Care Centre, Cropo Funeral Home and Glen Eden. Most importantly, heartfelt thanks to all his friends who were a part of his life here in Canada. Cremation and interment have taken place.

"Man lebt zweimal:
das erste Mal in der Wirklichkeit,
das zweite Mal in der Erinnerung."

Rest in Peace Werner.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I met Werner as a friend of my father. He worked at the Winnipeg Inn as Maitre d. I had one of my first jobs thanks to him at the Winnipeg Convention center. He was kind, noble, and dedicated to customers and his staff. - Posted by: Iain Macaulay (friend) on: Dec 29, 2023

  • In 1961 I washed dishes for three months at the Imperial Hotel in Vienna and remember Werner - he was a friend during that time. I went back to visit Vienna in 1963 and he was still there and I remember getting very drunk with him one evening then. He did tell me that when he has been to France. He came across as very eager and willing to help. Just browsing today and came across this page - it has to be the same Werner. Sorry to hear of his death at this sad and difficult time for us all. - Posted by: Judy MacDonald (None) on: Aug 09, 2021
