August 16, 1929 - September 11, 2020

With her family by her side, Della Southall passed away on Friday, September 11 at the age of 91.
Della was born to Mary and Eddie Carroll in Sioux Lookout in 1929. An athletic girl, she excelled in many sports and enjoyed outdoor life in Northwestern Ontario. Della was very musical, playing piano and singing in award-winning choirs. In 1949, she married her soulmate, Gershom Southall, and in 1966 they and their five daughters moved to Winnipeg where Della lived for the rest of her life.
Della was an active and dedicated member of Grant Memorial Church. She sang in the adult choir for many years and eventually with the Golden Echoes senior choir.
A loving wife and mother, Della loved to entertain and cooked many delicious meals for family and friends. She was very artistic and enjoyed sewing, ceramics and other crafts. She was fond of camping and travel, but her favourite times were summers spent at the cottage in Sioux Lookout. Together as a team, Della and Gersh created a stunning lakeside property where they entertained family and friends, and revelled in the lake life of boating, cookouts, bonfires, and swimming.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Carol (John), Lorraine, Cindy (Gérald), Gail (André) and Brenda (George); grandchildren, Stephen, Clint, Matt, Scott, Tara, Jenelle, David, Kelly, Ashley, Reneé, Raymond, Danielle, Shane and Keith; great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Due to current restrictions on public gatherings, a private family service was held on Friday, September 18 and Della was laid to rest next to her soulmate, Gershom, in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good;
His love endures forever. Psalm 107:1

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Our sincere condolences to the entire family. Cathy's parents, John and Bernice Markes were friends of the Southalls at Grant Memorial. They enjoyed many 55+ Seniors group outings together, and John was in awe of Gersh's many talents. Della was a lovely lady, and John and Bernice had many good times singing in the Golden Echoes, and several trips to other churches and Tour trips too. May the family's many fond memories and stories of time spent together, along with your Faith, carry you through this time of grief. - Posted by: Don & Cathy Lewis (friends from GMBC) on: Sep 25, 2020
