ETHEL LIANE DARTNELL

On September 8, 2020, my beloved wife of 43 years, Ethel Liane Dartnell (Lee) (my miss Laney), passed, aged 66, exactly one month short of her 67th birthday, at the Grace Hospital after a short illness.
She was a very special lady and I will miss her terribly. She was totally unique, somewhat eccentric, a very special person who throughout her life showed kindness and helped many. She was extremely proud of her many years with CRA as an auditor and Interpretation and Services Officer Winnipeg District Excise/GST. Prior to that she worked for Central Graphics as accountant and Office Manager. For 25 years, she suffered terrible chronic head pain with grace, dignity, and without ever a word of complaint.
She wished to thank Dr. Roy W. Smith for decades of incredible dedicated and loving care. You made her life bearable.
She was predeceased by her father Benjamin Dartnell and mother Shirley Liane Dartnell (née Watrin), and is survived by her husband Aurèle Teffaine; one sister Kris, brothers, Bill (Helen) and Paul (Shelley Hart); brother-in-law Rhéal (Carmen); and sister-in-law Shirley.
No services/memorial to be held at this time. NO flowers! If you wish, donate to a charity of your choice.

Adieu ma Belle.

  • I was truly lucky to have had some contact with Liane after her stint at GST/CRA. We lived in the same neighborhood, so I occasionally met up with her at Safeway. She was always so kind and happy to see me and I to see her. We always said that we should get together for a visit but unfortunately I always thought that there would be another day. Aurele, my deepest condolences. You are in my thoughts. I shall miss her. - Posted by: Sue Roesler (Co-worker ) on: Sep 30, 2020

  • I am heartbroken to lose my dear cousin. We were very good friends all of our lives. I very clearly remember Liane explaining a lot of things to me when we were very young. Hide-n-seek on the second floor of her parents' home on Buxton Road in Winnipeg, summer fun at Sandy Hook, jumping from a small fountain in a swimming pool near Winnipeg, all these things come flooding back. We always kept in touch and I last visited her in October. I have been working on our family history and now have a great deal of information about the Dartnells back to the 16th century. I always updated Liane on this. She really surprised me a few years ago when I was doing so by replying "that is great Mike, you've been working on this since we were kids." She remembered this, which I did not I will miss her intelligence, her deep sincerity and most of all the love that flowed between us. XXX - Posted by: Michael Dartnell (cousin) on: Sep 22, 2020

  • Liane and I worked together in the early 90s training all the brand new GST auditors at the CRA. We were brand new ourselves in wonderful new taxation careers. We fought battles together against the masters in Ottawa and we won most of the time. Liane never backed down from a fight against bureaucratic ineptitude. She was feisty, fearless, funny and ever so smart with her keen understanding of excise legislation, accounting and auditing. We were the best buds but sadly we lost touch as her declining health kept her away from the workplace. I will never forget Liane. My condolences to you Aurele and all her family. You have my deepest sympathy. - Posted by: Paul Downie (Friend and colleague ) on: Sep 19, 2020

  • My condolences to Liane's family. She always had a calm and kind demeanor at work, regardless of how difficult a case would be, which always made it easy to work with her. - Posted by: Allen Lasko (Former CRA co-worker) on: Sep 19, 2020
