DAPHNE ETTIE WOODS
In loving memory of Daphne Ettie Woods
June 22, 1954 - April 6, 2020

It is with deep sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Daphne Ettie Woods. Daphne joined her Heavenly Father at the age of 65 on Monday, April 6, 2020, at the Grace Hospital.
She leaves to mourn her niece, Marissa Woods, her Uncle John Woods (Marie), sister-in-law Colleen Woods, along with many aunts, uncles, numerous cousins and very dear friends. Daphne was predeceased by her parents, Brian (2019), Ettie (2000), and her brother Warren (2006).
Daphne was born and raised in Winnipeg. Music always played a significant role in her life from the time she began piano lessons at the age of five to when she graduated from the University of Brandon in 1979 with a degree in Music Education. Daphne started teaching as a Music Specialist at Beaumont School in 1979 for Grades K to 6, spending her entire career in Pembina Trails School Division until she retired, June 30, 2009. She never stopped learning and forwarding her education throughout her teaching career, always looking for the most current and innovative teaching methods. This provided her students with a rich and positive learning environment that stayed with them throughout their lives. One program Daphne particularly enjoyed was the Classical Music Summer Program at The Banff School for Arts and Creativity. Holiday concerts and annual musicals were the pinnacle of every school year. From designing sets and costumes to writing the musicals herself, Daphne dedicated her life to her students.
Daphne's artist flare carried over into her enjoyment for decorating her various homes. She treasured the time she spent up at the Petersfield cottage with her mother during the summers. Daphne loved nature and all animals but she had a particular fondness for cats. She always had one or two as pets throughout her life.
Daphne was a strong, devoted Roman Catholic, with an unconditional love of Jesus. She was a long-time member of St. John Brebeuf Parish where she sang in the choir for a number of years.
A private celebration of Daphne's life, along with interment, took place on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at St. Anne's Parish Cemetery, Petersfield, MB.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Daphne was a consistently dedicated, talented and professional colleague. She brought passion for music to our school and was always a cheery and friendly presence. One particular memory was she convinced me I could sing - apparently I am an alto and that I should sing the Mickey Mouse song over the PA as part of a music week plan. Condolences to Daohne’s family about she talked often with a smile in her lovely face. - Posted by: Cindy T (Colleague) on: Oct 12, 2020

  • Daphne taught music to both of my children and also in a school where I worked. We remember Daphne and her gift of music and the lightness in her footsteps. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Lois Forzley (Friend) on: Sep 26, 2020
