JEAN VIVIE MONKMAN
November 18, 1957 September 19, 2020
She leaves her loving husband Raymond; beloved daughter Ashley and father-in-law Ted Monkman (Rae). She also leaves her sisters, Gladys (Ernest) Babineau of NB and Rose (Terry) Heddon of Yorkton and their children. Mourning her as well are Raymond's siblings, Karin (Miles) Vandermaar, Michelle (Colin) Bahm, Vivian Mazur, Rod (Gina) Monkman and Catherine Green and their families.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, Lina Macek and John Davidson; sister Margaret and mother-in-law Lilo.
Jean was separated from her parents at an early age and endured a traumatic childhood in foster care. She met Raymond and together they worked hard to make a good life. She was kind and caring to Raymond's family, becoming close to her in-laws. Painful memories of abuse haunted her and she journeyed through PTSD with Raymond's support. Then, after 15 years, in the Year of the Family, Ashley was born. To Jean, this was a gift from heaven. She adored her daughter with every fibre of her being. No child was ever loved or protected more. Ashley gave her the happiness she never knew as a child and she tried to be the mother she never had herself. Jean was as kind, compassionate and caring as only those who have suffered can be. Her warmth will be missed by all.
Gilbart's Funeral Home, Selkirk in charge of arrangements. Jean will be cremated with interment at a later date.
In her memory, please feed the birds, help animals and, when you see wildflowers, think of her, for she was a free and gentle flower growing wild.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)
We would like to express our deepest condolences to Ray, Ashley and family on the passing of Jean. Our thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Tom & Jackie and family (friends) on: Sep 28, 2020
Jean met Ray shortly after he moved back to Winnipeg from Calgary. He met his love and that was that. Russ and I were there for their wedding which is a memorable day in our hearts lots of love and lots of laughs. We moved to Nova Scotia and they came and visited us here and once again the four of us shared so much love and laughs. When they found out Jean was pregnant it was so wonderful for them it was one of the things Jean wanted was to be a mother. Our time with Jean was always memorable and we share the sadness of her loss with her family. We are just so glad she was in our lives and will always be in our hearts. - Posted by: Min Mitten and Russ Sims (Friends) on: Sep 27, 2020
