September 16, 1950 - September 23, 2020

On Wednesday, September 23, 2020, Eleanor Gingerich passed away at home, with her family by her side. A faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Eleanor will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Roger, her children, Joel (Cassandra), Jodi (Mike), Andrea and Mark (Nathanja), and her 10 grandchildren.
Born September 16, 1950, she grew up in Landmark, MB. She had an idyllic childhood, with loving parents and four wonderful sisters. On March 31, 1973, and after a short courtship, she married Roger, and they joyfully walked together for 47 years.
From an early age, Eleanor was aware of God's presence, and all her life she was deeply involved in churches and ministries. What gave her the particular joy was being a friend. Eleanor always had a generous spirit, and encouraging heart, and a listening ear.
They raised four children, and Eleanor was tireless in her devotion to them. The family left behind will always be grateful for the way in which she loved all without condition. All her life she rejoiced, prayed continually, and gave thanks in all circumstances.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to CancerCare Manitoba and the local Community Cancer Program for their excellent care.
The come and go viewing will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 PTH 52W, Steinbach, MB.
The funeral service, open to the public but with limited seating, will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020, at 1:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, 360 McKenzie Ave., Steinbach, MB.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Beautiful, gentle, loving, mindful - just some of who was Eleanor. I can't say “favourite cousin”, since all are so precious to me, but I loved her and loved being with her, at cousin events, Prov gatherings, weddings and funerals. We weep with her family and pray for acceptance and peace. I wish for you a favourite prayer : “Christ be with you, Christ within you, Christ behind you, Christ before you. Christ beside you, Christ to win you, Christ to comfort and restore you.....” Maryrose - Posted by: Maryrose Derksen (“Double cousin”) on: Oct 02, 2020

  • On behalf of our family, I would like to express deepest condolences to Roger & Eleanor’s family and friends. My father, Henry Penner, from Landmark, referred to her as his “double cousin” and he & my mom, Donna, felt great love and respect for Roger and Eleanor. They would visit after church at Falcon Lake on sunny Sunday mornings and in earlier days, Roger would sometimes work with my dad at our house on the farm. Sending love and strength: Donna, Layna, Mona & Lucas Penner - Posted by: Mona Penner (My father was her cousin ) on: Oct 02, 2020

  • My mother, Elnora Kroeker, was Eleanor’s Cousin. My husband and I live in Arborg but whenever I would meet her at a family event she always took the time to chat and seemed interested in how we were doing. Our daughter was a friend to Nathanja, having gone to Providence together. Our condolences to Roger and family. - Posted by: Norma Doerksen ( Cousin and friend) on: Oct 01, 2020
