LOUISE MATTHEWSON
(DUDAR)
Her memory will be cherished by her beloved husband Don, of 50 years, children, Chris (Candace), James (Jennifer) and David (Barb), and grandchildren, Emily, Tyler, Savannah and Amber.
Louise courageously survived raising three boys who brought a lifetime of adventure, shenanigans, various injuries, minor property damage, but most of all laughter and joy. She entered the work force to pursue areas of interest. She developed passions for crafting, horticulture, quilting, tree farming, puzzles, Pinterest and YouTube. She was a steward of the environment before it was a fad. Louise planted hundreds of trees in her lifetime and she was an avid recycler finding a second use for absolutely everything.
In retirement, Louise became an excellent foreperson in the garden, the family property lovingly known as Oakridge Farm, or on a construction site building her dream home at the lake. She had a natural talent and vision for collecting rare finds and antiquities on her many excursions and travels. Every rock, shore glass, rustic find, and collectable in her home had a story from a destination which also made for interesting carry-on luggage.
Her travels took her across Canada, USA and overseas. Favourite activities during travel included camping with the grandchildren, treasure hunting, searching craft stores, boat excursions, touring cheese factories, searching for the perfect souvenir for each grandchild, antiquing, and exploring small towns via the back roads.
Louise held the most significant pride in being the biggest fan of her grandchildren. Grandma looked forward to the events such as ringette, basketball, dance, gymnastics, school and band concerts. The grandchildren will remember painting, sewing, trail building, gardening, crafting, shore collecting, playing board games and bird watching with Grandma. They all have fun memories and stories to tell about camping with Grandma.
Thank you to special visitors and caring neighbours especially Darlene, Brian and Al.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family celebration will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Westshore Community Foundation (westshorefoundation.com) or plant a tree in her honour.
Condolences may be left on her tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
