ELINOR JEAN LAING
(nee OUGHTON)
July 1, 1927 - September 28, 2020

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Jean Laing at the Eriksdale Personal Care Home, Eriksdale, Manitoba.
Jean will be missed and forever loved by her daughter Donna; grandchildren, Brian (Jaye) Kingsley, Sandra (Jamie) Johnson, Barton (Amanda) Simpson, Andria (Barret) Goldau; great-grandchildren, Clara and Molly Kingsley, Daniel and Ally Johnson, Callie Simpson, 'Anela, Felix, and Oliana Goldau; son-in-law Sheldon Simpson; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband John Laing; daughter Patricia Simpson; son-in-law Glen Kingsley; parents, Robert and Lillian Oughton; mother and father-in-law, Elizabeth and Bob Laing; siblings, Howard (Lucille) Oughton, Robert (Rose) Oughton, Helen (Clint) Waggoner, and Ruth (James) Platt; brothers-in-law, Doug (Winnie) Laing, George (Mary) Laing; sisters-in-law, Mary Shantz, Allison (Hamie) Nelson, and Margaret Laing.
Jean was born in Stonewall, Manitoba at Mrs. Howsom's nursing home. She attended Stonewall schools and started a nursing program in Winnipeg, then worked in a doctor's office until her marriage to John.
John and Jean married in October 1947 and lived and farmed in the RM of Rosser. Jean lived a long and challenging life. Afflicted with Polio in her early years, she adopted a can do - will do - no excuse philosophy to her life. Her home was open and welcoming to friends and family.
Through the years, Jean was involved in the community serving on the Rockwood Agricultural Society Board, Stonewall and District Health Centre Board, Health Care Centre Auxiliary, and was involved with the Lilyfield United Church.
Jean left the farm to live in Stonewall's Lions Manor from 2004 to 2012. Later she moved into the Eriksdale Personal Care Home to be closer to her daughter.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mom's extended family - the nurses, and all the staff at the Eriksdale Personal Care Home for their loving care and the support they gave to all of our family.
A private family interment will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice in Jean's name.
