JUNE MURIEL KULLMAN
June 20, 1932 - September 25, 2020
June was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 20, 1932. She was the second daughter of Julius and Sigridur (Sarah) Jorundson (nee Davidson). She spent her early years living in St. James with her parents and older sister Dorothy close to their extended family. She was a shy and quiet child but was always proud of her Icelandic heritage. Mom enjoyed many family trips to visit relatives in the Interlake.
June met the love of her life, Jack, at a dance in Winnipeg Beach. They were married on July 16, 1955 at Young United Church. They had four children, Nancy, Lorna, Jeff and Heather. The focus of her life has always been her family. Being a stay at home mom meant many sacrifices and challenges which were made willingly. You would often see June and Jack at their children's and grandchildren's band concerts, piano recitals, and sporting events. Summer vacations were spent travelling throughout southern Manitoba, Ontario and in later years the West Coast. After the children left home, June and Jack were able to spend more time together. They enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as going for walks, going out for meals, and playing golf together. June began to take more time for herself. She joined the gym, swam regularly at the YMCA, and joined two ladies golf leagues.
Mom had a strong sense of responsibility as well as being a very kind and compassionate person. Later in her mother's life she shared the responsibility for her care with her sister. As June aged, she became ill and was the one who needed care.
June is survived by her children, Nancy (Tolv), Lorna (Tim), Jeff (Nora) and Heather (James); her grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda, Daniel, Andrew, Shannon, Ryan, Melanie, Mikaela and Madeline, as well as her great-grandchildren, Ethan, Carson, Brody, Damien, Dominik, Lucy, Lia, Kai, Emma June, Annalise and Mila. She was predeceased by her husband Jack; her parents; her sisters, Dorothy (Rock) and infant sister Margaret Rose; brother-in-law Ray Rock; grandson Brandon Zulkoski, as well as numerous aunts and uncles.
Sincere thanks to the staff of Misericordia Hospital and Concordia Place for their support, care, and compassion during her illness. Most of all, we would like to thank Mom's care companion Ursula Henschke. She was a strong advocate for our mom and over time a strong bond developed between them. Ursula became part of our family and we will be eternally grateful for the loving care she received.
A memorial service for June was held on September 27, 2020, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 708 McCalman Avenue with Reverend Dr. Harald Schoubye officiating. A private family interment has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, or a charity of your choice.
