MEDD: One year ago today, July 18, 2019, Leslie (Les) Allan Medd (age 91) passed peacefully at the Wawanesa Personal Care Home with wife Jean by his side. Les really disliked funerals and all things related to them, so things were kept simple and limited to immediate family. He was not a fan of long obituaries either. Les was born in Rounthwaite Manitoba on November 14, 1927. He is survived by wife Jean (Barnes married September 1, 1956), daughter Susan Medd (Russ Maloney) daughter Cindy Medd and her children Marissa and Noah with Ken Stelmack. He is also survived by siblings Alyce Ellis, Wawanesa, MB, June Cook, Nanaimo, BC, Diane Arthur (Brian), Ladner, BC, Jack Medd (Betty), Windsor, ON, and many endearing nieces (whom he called ‘The Medd girls’) and nephews. Les was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Clarence Medd, sister Edna Ardron (Reg), brother Bruce Medd (Daphne), sister-in-law Janet Mooney, brother-in-law Ernie Ellis and Bob Cook. The 700 block of 11th Street in Brandon was home for Les and Jean from 1956 until they moved to Pelican Point Beach in the early 1990’s when Les retired. As a plumber, Les worked for the Department of National Defense at Shilo’s ‘bunker’ as well as at Camp Hughes. Les much preferred golfing to working and spent lots of days pre and post-retirement on the golf courses of Brandon, Killarney, Glenboro and others. Perhaps his most favorite thing was camping with family. Summers of the 1960’s and 1970’s were filled with pulling a trailer to Edmonton to visit the Maskell’s and the Barnes’, or to the Maher’s farm yard near Wawanesa, or to Kenosee Lake, Spruce Woods Provincial Park or Killarney. He definitely liked the driving part but was not keen on the stopping for bathroom breaks part. Les faced life with hard work; no sense doing something if you couldn’t do it right. There was also no sense in worrying about life when you could laugh about it. Les’ greatest gift to those around him was his sense of humour. He was never without a witty comment sometimes tinged with sarcasm if you weren’t careful. He also really enjoyed his grandchildren and all the humorous truths they innocently observed. Ninety-one didn’t seem long enough.
