MOORE: Lois Tillia Moore (nee Leigh), August 8, 1929 - January 8, 2009. It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Lois Moore at the Glenboro Hospital. She will be dearly missed by her children: Christine, Michael (Ishbel), Eric (Carol), Robert (Lisa), Mary (Larry Sylvester), Janet (Glen Suggett), Francine (Brian Horky), Monica (Odee Pineda), Celia and Albert. She will be remembered fondly by her grandchildren: Brad, Ishbel, and Elizabeth; Cody, Garett, Kyle, and Wyatt; Matthew, Ken, David and Jennifer; Andrew; Ariana and Aidan. She will be greatly missed by numerous relatives, friends and neighbours. Born in Medora on August 8, 1929, Lois was predeceased by her father Edward (1971); her mother Getrude Tillia (1949), her husband John (1988), her daughter Helen (1963) and her son Hugh John (1971). Lois was a determined, strong woman, who was very caring and loving to her family and friends. She grew up on a farm in the Medora area where she made many life-long friends. Mom was unable to attend school, so she learned by correspondence, and finished her high school at summer school in Gimli. She attended Normal School in Winnipeg, and graduated with a teaching certificate in 1951. Lois taught at several one-room schools in Manitoba, including Pennisula, Waterloo and Northfield. While at Northfield School she met her husband, John Rae Moore. They were married in 1956, and farmed for many years near Wawanesa. In addition to being a mother to 12 children and helping to run the farm, she worked as a home care attendant until she retired at the age of 70. In 2002 Lois moved off the farm to Wawanesa. Mom was a faithful and devout Roman Catholic. Her community was important to her. She was actively involved in many organizations, including Senior Independent Services, the Wawanesa Museum, and the Northfield Community Club. Mom was very interested in local history and genealogy, and spent many hours searching for her roots. She square-danced, she gardened, she cooked and these activities gave her great joy. Her pies and farm fresh meals were infamous. She deeply loved her 14 grandchildren and made every effort to attend all of their numerous activities. In accordance with Lois' wishes, her body was donated to the University of Manitoba. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10th, 2009 at St. Felix Catholic Church, Dunrea, Manitoba with lunch to follow at the Wawanesa Hall. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Lois’ memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg R3E 0V9 or to the Palliative Unit at the Glenboro Hospital, Box 310 Glenboro, Manitoba, R0K 0X0.
