BARTLEY: Margaret Constance Bartley. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wife, mother and grandmother, Margaret Constance Bartley. Margaret passed away at Elkwood Manor, Elkhorn Manitoba Wednesday; January 7, 2009. Mom was born on November 6, 1932 on the family farm 15 miles north of Elkhorn to Alfred and Connie McColl. She had six brothers - Bert, Roy, Glen, Jack, Jim and Ron. Mom attended Jeffery School and then moved into Elkhorn to complete high school. Like many young women of the times, Mom completed Normal School and then taught at Roselea School near Willen and at a country school near Strathclair. Before marrying “the best” husband and father, she worked at the Elkhorn Creamery and Ross’s General Store. Mom is survived by her loving husband Bill of 56 years and their children: Karen (Rick Scott), Richard (Jan), Christine (Robin Smith), Rosemary (Burton Collins), John (Darlene), Maureen (Jeff Ross), Carla (Trevor Copp), Catherine (Trevor Derksen). and grandchildren, Andrea (Adam Balon), Michael, Jenna, Erica, Kara, Tawna, Ryan; Jennifer, Kennedy, Carson, Reise, Grayson, Sela, Grace, Lauren and Keenan. Mom is also survived by her brothers Jack (Bev) of Condor, Alberta, Jim (Shirley) of Fife Lake, Saskatchewan and Ron of Toronto, Ontario, sister-in-law Elsie and Bill’s brothers Earl (Norma) of Brandon, Manitoba, Marlyn (Mary) of Brandon, Manitoba, Don (Rose Marie) of Elkhorn, Manitoba and many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her daughter Ellyce, in infancy, her grandaughter Dayna, her mother and father, her brothers Roy, Bert, Glen and sister-in-law Rosemary. Mom and Dad successfully owned and operated Bartley’s Dept. Store for many years retiring in 2002. Mom and Dad were fortunate to work side by side. Mom so enjoyed talking to people at the store. Mom loved to knit, garden, read and travel around to visit her children and grandchildren. Mom and Dad were able to travel to Hawaii, California, Florida and Mexico. A great memory was dancing for five nights in a row to the Guy Lombardo Orchestra on a cruise to the Bahamas. Mom belonged to the Rebekah Lodge and served as past noble grand. Mom taught Sunday School at Elkhorn United Church, was on the committee that successfully saved Elkhorn Collegiate Institute and was involved in many other community events.Mom enjoyed her family and loved it when the house was filled with laughter, singing and someone playing the piano. Family was always a priority for Mom, which we all felt whether we were together or apart.Mother in gladness, Mother in sorrow,Mother today, and Mother tomorrow,With arms ever open to enfold and caress you,O Mother of Mine, may God keep you and bless you.An Old English PrayerThe service to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held at Trinity United Church in Elkhorn, Manitoba Monday; January 12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dwight Rutherford officiating. Interment will be in Elkhorn Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or to Elkwood Manor Remembrance Fund (Elkhorn) in memory of Margaret.
