DOROSHUK: Geraldine “Frances” (nee Scott) passed away January 7, 2009, at the age of 67 at Assiniboine Centre, Brandon. Fran is survived by loving husband John; daughters, Deb (Kelly), Justin and Taylor Bessette; Karen (Peter), Kaitlyn and Dylan Dmytriw; brothers, Gladwyn (Marguerite) Scott, Glennis (Faun) Scott; sisters, Gayleen Stimpson, Barbara Ann (Peter) Mikulin; brother-in-law Harold Kopetsky; and sister-in-law Mary Doroshuk; many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents James and Merle Scott, sister Lorrene Kopetsky, step-mother Jean Scott, brother-in-law Merv Stimpson, mother and father- in-law Yomen and Pauline Doroshuk. Fran was born in Hamiota July 12, 1941 “third lovely daughter” of James and Merle Scott. She spent her early years on the family farm at McConnell, mowing the huge lawn, hauling wood, cleaning barns, milking cows. When she learned to drive, nephew Dana was treated to exciting trips up and down the long lane. Sports were a large part of family life in the Scott household. Fran won many red ribbons at field days, netted many goals as a lightening forward with McConnell hockey team. Mom played softball, catching for Shoal Lake Sou Locks, Lenore and CUAC Blues (Winnipeg) and was inducted to the Softball Hall of Fame as a team member of Lenore and later inducted again as a team member of the CUAC Blues, Winnipeg. Mom graduated Manitoba Normal School and her first teaching position was in Margaret, Manitoba and later as principal in Buttrum. She met her future husband, John, while teaching in Margaret and they were married August 4, 1962. John, Fran, Deb and Karen would always be traveling the countryside, going to Austin Thresherman’s Reunions, Riverside Canuck’s ballgames at old Riverside ball field, attending many sports days to watch Dad pitch, and so many Wheat King games. Fran and John retired to Brandon after more than 30 years of farming. Fran then started working at the Keystone Arena, she loved the people young and old, sharing her wisdom with whoever would listen. Mom loved being at her grandchildren’s events and was a constant companion to every volleyball, baseball, and soccer game - She was so proud of them. Mom had a heart of gold and we miss and love her so much.“Cheerio Mom”
