MILLARD: Russell William passed away peacefully at the age of 80 in the Assiniboine Centre on Saturday, February 7, 2009 with his family by his side. Russell was born March 17, 1928 at Waskada, Manitoba to the parents of William and Mildred Millard. He was the oldest in the family, brothers George and Delmar and sister Mae. In the fall of 1934, Russell moved to Portage la Prairie and started his schooling at Euclid School, returning home to Waskada in the following spring, to attend school in Addington. Russell and his brother George took their grade 11 and 12 in Teulon. He started teaching school at Waterloo in the years 1946-47. Russell married Doreen Gill on June 20, 1953. They were blessed with four children Barb, Blaine, Bonnie and Bill. Russell's love of his life, was his family, the farm, his community and vehicles. Russell served his community and his church faithfully. He was involved in many committees and activities throughout his years on the farm and continued to serve after moving to Brandon in 1983. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Doreen of 55 years; daughter, Barb (Dennis Carbert) of Clyde, Alberta, Margo, Bruce and Myles; son, Blaine (Debbie) of Waskada, Todd and Kaitlin; daughter, Bonnie (Bill Holt) of Brandon; son, Bill (Jodie) of Killarney, Kyla, Kellie and Maisie Rose; great granddaughter, Emerson. Russell was predeceased by his parents, brother Delmar and grandson Billie John. The Ceremony to Celebrate Russell's Life will be held at Central United Church, 327 8th Street on Tuesday, February 10th at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood will officiate. Interment will take place at the Waskada Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations in memory of Russell may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society - Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9 or to a charity of choice.
