CHINNER: Frederick William Chinner. After battling cancer for more than two years, Fred passed away February 7, 2009 at the Boissevain Health Centre with his family close by. During his courageous fight he was comforted and cared for by his loving wife, Sheila. Fred was born on December 5, 1927 in Cutknife, Saskatchewan to Elizabeth Maud (James) and William Franklin Chinner. He was the oldest son with a younger brother, George and sister, Norma. Fred received his education in the Weir School where he was an active 4-H member. He worked as a farm labourer in the Cardale District. Fred married Sheila Alice Knight December 10, 1952. They had three children, Marlene, Barry and Dennis. After attending Artificial Insemination Technician School, Fred moved to Melita in 1959 and started the first Artificial Insemination Unit for Southwestern Manitoba. They moved to Deloraine in 1961 to start farming and Fred continued to operate the Deloraine Co-op A.I. Unit. Fred was in the A.I. business for a total of 14 years. In addition to the A.I. business, they had a dairy and mixed farming operation for many years. After semi-retiring they moved to Deloraine in 1992. Fred volunteered for Access TV, taping many community events and activities. Fred and Sheila enjoyed square dancing which they did for over 40 years. Fred also loved attending all the neighbouring fairs and participating in the activities of the Horticultural Society. Fred is survived by his loving wife, Sheila; daughter Marlene Cappelle (Gord) and their daughter Melody (Roy), Madison and Jaren; son Barry (Sheila) and daughters Jennifer Lamb (Jason), Kody and Adam; Angela, Cole and Austin; son Dennis (Sylvia); sister Norma Crossman; special friend Sandy Knight; brothers- in-law Wayne Knight (Phyllis); Darrell Knight (Barb) and many nieces and nephews. Fred is predeceased by his father and mother, Frank and Elizabeth Chinner; father -in-law and mother-in-law Bill and Bertha Knight; brother George, sister-in-law Lorraine; and brother-in-law Bill Crossman. A memorial service was held February 10, 2009 at the Deloraine United Church at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cancer Society, Boissevain Health Centre Palliative Care or Deloraine Health Centre Palliative Care. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Smith’s Funeral Home, Deloraine.
