FEADER: Harvey Charles passed away peacefully in Killarneys Tri-Lake Health Centre, on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the age of 93, with family at his side. He had lived a long, full life and was ready to rest. Harvey was born on May 23, 1915 to Annie and William Feader of Fleming, Saskatchewan. Two years later he became a protective big brother when Carmen arrived. William died of influenza in 1918. Six years later Annie married Leslie Osborne who had four children of his own, sons Lloyd and Gordon, daughters Jeanice and Phyllis. Harvey was the last surviving member of this blended family. Left to mourn his passing are his two children with first wife Dorothy Leslie, as well as their families; son Leslie (Donna) of Winnipeg and daughter Margaret (Barry) Brown of Saskatoon, grandson Ryan, great-grandson Braydon and granddaughter Leah (Daulton) Gordon, great granddaughters Jada and Kaya. Harvey is also survived by his second wife, the former Audrey Vandenberghe, and their two daughters Connie of Glenboro and Lindsay (Jason) Maurice of Killarney, grandsons Owen and Aidan. Sister-in-law Mary Osborne and numerous other relatives are also touched by his passing. Harvey had many memories of his early days on the family farm including the beginning of a lifelong love for hockey. You dont know what dedication is unless youre a little boy skating on the backyard family rink in size 10 skates stuffed with socks, or until youve perfected your slapshot by firing frozen horse turds at the barn door! The best way to describe Harveys working life was entrepreneurial. He owned and operated many businesses ranging from selling coal to building a garage to running various restaurants. When he finally retired from the work force, he was head custodian at Killarney Collegiate. Most people however will remember him simply as Harv, the owner of Harveys Drive-Inn down by the lake. His smile, friendliness and classic lines such as, Lovely day!, Here come the three musty steers, and Youre a gentleman and a scholar and a fine judge of black horses endeared him to many. Harvey served on various organizations in Killarney over the years including a long time association with the Killarney Shamrocks. He was a faithful member of the United Church congregation, going to church early to stake out his regular second seat from the back. What kind of a man was Harvey? Generous, helpful and kind to all. He enjoyed his morning scripture reading, apple cider vinegar(!), the color red (because he couldnt tell the difference between green and blue), raisin pie, a dish of fruit, taking his three granddogs for walks, Friday evening phone chats with Les, afternoon siestas, sitting outside watching the garden grew and a glass of wine before supper. What no eye has seen, nor ear has heard, not the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love Him - 1 Corinthians 2:9Rest well, Harvey, Dad, Grandpa, and Greatgrandpa.Well miss you, Professor.Memorial Reception will be held Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., at the Legion Hall Killarney, Manitoba. Killarney and Boissevain Funeral Homes entrusted with the arrangements.
