GLADSTONE: Cecil Lawrence Gladstone of Brandon, Manitoba, passed away with his family at his side at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, February 26th, 2009. Cec was born in Boissevain, Manitoba on June 10, 1929. There, he began his education but left school early to start a life-long career in construction, carpentry and cabinet making. While living in Boissevain, he met and married Mary Elizabeth Ramsey and they began their family with the birth of daughter, Maureen, before moving to Brandon. There, he spent the majority of his working life with the B&B of the Canadian Pacific Railway and was known for his exceptional wood working skills. Cec and Mary were very social people making many lasting friendships at the curling rink, as members of the Legion and ANAF and summers at their cottage at Ditch Lake. Cec was a strong believer in the work of A.A. He gave back as much as he could by working tirelessly with the fellowship and his home group making sure meeting rooms were open, coffee was made, assisting with conferences, working as treasurer and most importantly, helping others as a sponsor. He enjoyed outings to the Thresherman's Reunion, family reunions and visiting friends and family and cared deeply for the welfare of others. His personal needs always came second. Cec will be fondly remembered by daughter Maureen, grandson Larry (Caralee) and great grandchildren Jessica and Brady, sons Jim (Allison) and Dan. He was predeceased by Mary, his wife of 46 years, parents Alena and Arthur Fredrick Gladstone, brothers Albert, Jim, Bob and Charles and many lifelong friends, co-workers and relatives. Funeral services were held at the Brockie Donovan Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 with Arlene Robertson and Rachelle Wilk officiating, followed by a private family interment at the Brandon Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were Lynn Flewitt, Mark Morgan, Gord Nelson, Larry Marsh, Dan Gladstone and Jim Gladstone with Hank and Bill as Honorary Pallbearers. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Cec's memory to the Salvation Army, 9 Princess Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 1R8, Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation "Palliative Care", 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon Manitoba, R7A 2B3 or to a charity of choice. The family would like to pass on their utmost gratitude and respect to the entire staff on A3 for the care and support they show for all their patients and families.Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com.
