COULING: Grace Elizabeth Couling (Woodhead) passed away peacefully at her residence in Fairview Home on March 25, 2009. She was predeceased by her husband, J. Leonard Couling. She is survived by their only child, Larry and his wife Jean, their children and their families: Gary & Tami, Kelli & Korry and Stacy. The lights of her life are her great-grandchildren, Leonard, Danielle and Ruby. Grace is also survived by her sister, Betty (John) Egglestone of Pentiction, B.C. Grace was born in Cowley, AB on June 16, 1914. She came to Lauder in 1938 to work for the Coulings, and married Leonard in October 1939. Grace was very active in the community, travelling the countryside square dancing, and she was proud to be a life member of the United Church Women. Grace and Len moved to Deloraine when they retired from the farm in 1976, where they remained active with curling, the Royal Purple and trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas and California. Before long she found retirement boring, though, and started a new career as a nursing aide. Everyone who knew her would have a different and unique memory of her wit and charm. They moved again to Brandon in 1997 to be closer to family. After Leonard died in 2000, Grace moved to Parkview Seniors Complex and made friends at every turn. Anyone who sat down at her table to eat could sing her praises in the kitchen! But, when the pots got too heavy to lift, she reluctantly moved next door to Fairview in December, 2006. There, one never knew when a crib game might break out and soon she again made many new friends among both the staff and residents. She will be missed and remembered lovingly by her numerous friends and family. Internment will occur at a later date. Smith Funeral Home, Deloraine in care of arrangements. www.whealnd.com
