JASKA: Stella (nee Borotsik) passed away very peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at her residence, Fairview Home, at the age of 99. Stella is survived by her children Irene Olekswik (Paul), Donald (Judy), June Pettersson (Arnie), Bob (Chris), and Dianne Turner (Ken); grandchildren: Pat Smallwood (Harry), Kim Mayer (Sylvain), David Jaska, Cory Jaska (Sara), Rob Jaska (Erin), Ryan Jaska (Karen), Dale Turner and Tammy Turner; four great-grandchildren: Mollie and Matthew Jaska, Meagan and Kate Jaska. She is also survived by her sister Jean Wirth; sisters-in-law: Lucille Barker and Iris Borotsik and numerous nieces and nephews. Stella was predeceased by her parents Nicholas and Katherine Borotsik, her husband John Jaska and granddaughter Barb Olekswik. She was also predeceased by her brother Walter (Jean); sister Ann Evanchuk (John), brother "Bonnie" John (Jean), brothers: Martin (Julia), Peter (Lena), Steven Barker, and "Danny" Donald; also one brother-in-law Clarence Wirth. Stella was born in Brandon, on November 16, 1909. She was the eldest of nine siblings, and grew up helping care for her brothers and sisters. She worked at the hospital. On October 22, 1929, she married John Jaska. They enjoyed entertaining, fishing, and going on picnics. Together they loved gardening. Stella's garden and fruit trees flourished until she lost her sight after having surgery to remove a brain tumour, in July 1992. Stella dealt with her blindness with courage, strength and dignity, the way she lived her life. Stella had many friends with whom she shared her love of bingo, bowling and sports. Stella was a wonderful cook. She had a great sense of humour, was a terrific joke teller and loved April Fool's Day. She was still pulling pranks up until a few years ago, when she tricked the nurses at Fairview. Stella loved to travel and visited Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Disneyland, Mexico, Hawaii, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. She also went on Caribbean and Alaskan cruises. Stella supported her children and grandchildren's endeavours. We are grateful our Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma is now at peace. We love you. Thank you very much to the staff at Fairview for their care and compassion. A celebrationof Stella's life was held at Memories Chapel on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, with the Very Rev. Fr. Michael Skrumeda officiating. Interment followed inthe Brandon Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dale Turner, Rob Jaska, Ryan Jaska, Cory Jaska, Ron Borotsik and Rick Borotsik. All in attendance were honorary pallbearers. Memorial donations may be made in Stella's memory to thecharity of your choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made atwww.memorieschapel.com.
