MACHIBRODA: It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Frances Terese Machibroda (nee Smith) on April 14, 2009 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 81 years. Frances is predeceased by her parents, husband John (1997), brothers Ed and Al, sister Patricia and granddaughter Nicole. Left to cherish her memory are her children; Doug (Sally) Machibroda of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Theresa Machibroda of Brandon, Manitoba; Susan (Dan) Reedy of Kamloops; Robert (Sherry) Machibroda of Dauphin, Manitoba; Margaret (Carlos) of Toronto, Ontario; grandchildren Candace, Nicholas, Benjamin and Cyrene, great grandchildren Ryder and Avery and sister Lorraine (John) Crawford of Victoria, British Columbia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Frances was born on October 3, 1927 in Melville, Saskatchewan to Charles and Lucy (Bates) Smith. She attended a private school till grade 10, and later took her cosmetology in Winnipeg and worked as a hair dresser. After marrying John Machibroda, Frances moved into a farm house with no running water or electricity and stayed home to raise her children. She loved to knit, and she learned to speak, read and write Ukrainian. Frances was a very determined, strong willed and caring lady. She was part of the Ukrainian Catholic Choirs in both Ethelbert and Gilbert Plains. Prayers for Frances were held on Sunday, April 19, 2009 from the Riverside Evergreen Chapel in Dauphin. Funeral services were held Monday, April 20, 2009 from Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ethelbert with the Fr. Yaroslav Strukhlyak officiating. Metro Lukie served as cantor, Nicholas Machibroda acted as crossbearer, Theresa Machibroda was the reader and Sally Machibroda read the eulogy. Interment followed in St. Michaels Cemetery in Venlaw, Manitoba. Pallbearers were Doug Machibroda, Rob Machibroda, Paul Machibroda, Margaret Machibroda, Carlos Morao and Candace Plamondon.
