BARANIUK: Peter Baraniuk passed away peacefully on May 26, 2009 at the age of 71 at Rideau Park Personal Care Home, Brandon, Manitoba. Peter was born on July 25, 1937 in the R.M. of Clanwilliam, Manitoba. On July 5, 1958, Peter was united in marriage to his best friend and soul mate, Merine Jenks. In 1964, Peter and Merine built a home for their family in Brandon, Manitoba, where they resided for 41 years. Peter was self-employed as a brick layer for a number of years before a long term illness prevented him from working further. Peter was a self taught guitar and fiddle player and had a great love for Ukrainian and country western music. Peter enjoyed hunting with his brothers, working on cars, and fishing, but the greatest delight in his life were his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Peter loved his family unconditionally and gave of himself willingly, with no expectations that his kindness be returned. He had a wonderful sense of humor with an ability to make people laugh. He never asked for much out of life, and what he did have, he was grateful for. There are not enough words to describe Peter as a man. Those who knew him, understood and accepted him for who he was and what he had to offer. Left to cherish the memory of Peter are his four daughters: Karen Baraniuk (Duncan), Lethbridge, Alberta, Sharron Smith (Rod), Stettler, AB, Sherryl Mashinter (Jacques Lessard), Austin, MB and Kathy Stanley (Dan), Boggy Creek, Manitoba. Peter has six grandchildren: Greg, Matthew, Lindsay, Ali, Wesley and Travis and two great grandsons, Ty and Brayden. Peter has five step grandchildren: Paul, Wanda, Brigitte, Jennelle and Jenique. Peter was predeceased by his wife Merine Baraniuk in 2007, father Mike, mother Annie, step-mother Milly, brothers Tony and John, sister Helen, and step-brother Joe. Peter has one surviving brother, Bill (Phyllis), Prince George, B.C. and 2 step-brothers, Victor (Diane), Erickson, Manitoba and Tom, Prince George, B.C. There are some people that Peters family would like to thank. A most sincere and heartfelt thank you to the caring and compassionate staff at Rideau Park Personal Care Home for providing such excellent care. Thank you to Ryan Childs for being Dad's buddy and for making him smile. A special thank you to neighbors, Ken and Julie, who shared a friendship with Dad. At Peter's request, no funeral service will be held. A private memorial ceremony will be held by his family to celebrate his life. Cremation service will be provided by Brockie Donovan. In memory of Peter and in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Rideau Park Personal Care Home Donation Fund, 525 Victoria Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 6S9. I will always be here to comfort you.I will always be here to understand you.I will always be here to laugh with you.I will always be here to cry with you.I will always be here to talk with you.I will always be here to think with you.And even though we might not be together,Know that I will always be here to love you.Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com
