FRANKLIN: The death of Marie Franklin, beloved wife of Alvin and dear mother of Doug, Darlene and Joe, occurred at the Assiniboine Centre on Monday, June 8, 2009. Marie was born in Brandon on September 11, 1929, one of four children born to George and Mary Blythe. She was raised in the Elton Municipality, attending school at Mount Vernon, Turiff School, Forrest and completing her education at the Brandon Normal School. Marie taught school at Decker, Manitoba and then worked for a time with Manitoba Telephone System as a book-keeper. She then worked at Woolworth's in Brandon as a sales clerk and also drove a school van. Marie married Alvin Franklin in Brandon on October 28, 1950 and together they enjoyed over fifty-eight years of marriage. Marie loved her flowers and gardening. She was an excellent cook and won numerous prizes in baking competitions at the local fairs. Her talents also extended to sewing and knitting. During the many years in the Forrest community, Marie was an active member of the Forrest Community Curling Rink. Marie will be dearly missed by: her husband, Alvin; her children, Doug Franklin, Darlene (Ron) Fuhr and Joe Franklin. Marie also leaves two sisters, Jeanette Kille and Anne Chesney. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Mary and by a sister, Betty Carnahan. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at Memories Chapel on Friday, June 12, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Mona Franklin will officiate. A private graveside service will follow at the St. George's Cemetery.
