HINCHLIFFE: Lois Ann (Caverly) Hinchliffe. 1942 – 2009. Following a brief illness, Lois Ann (Caverly) Hinchliffe died in hospital in Brandon, Manitoba on June 7, 2009. at the age of 66 years. Born in Swan River, Manitoba on November 20th, 1942, she was the only daughter of Edwin John (Jack) Caverly and Jeannette (Jennie) Petrie Caverly. She attended the Lady Hubble School from Grades 1 to 5, briefly living in Birch River before the family moved to Flin Flon where her father started his hotel management training. In 1954, the Caverlys made their home in Gladstone where Lois attended junior high. She went on to attend high school in Bowsman Manitoba later enrolling in business college in the fall of 1960 and graduating in May of 1961. A month later she began her secretarial career on June 15 in Swan River, where she continued to work until her retirement on November 28, 1997. Lois married Mervyn Stanley Hinchliffe, in The Pas, Manitoba on October 9, 1965. They made their home in Swan River for sixteen years until they moved to the Rural Municipality of Swan River on January 6, 1980. Together they designed and built their dream home where they enjoyed country life, surrounding themselves with lovely flower gardens and beautiful landscaping. After Merv's sudden passing in November of 1998, Lois continued to live in their home until 2002, when she moved into Swan River and subsequently on to Brandon to make her home. As a little girl, Lois enjoyed attending Sunday school, choir, Girl Guides and CGIT. As a young woman she felt she had been blessed with a loving, wonderful husband and the couple enjoyed their years together travelling to many parts of the world. They both enjoyed curling, golfing, reading and solving crossword puzzles. Attending church was a regular part of their lives, and entertaining friends and family members in their home was a great source of pleasure. They loved to garden, spending countless hours working in their yard to the soothing sounds of nature. Having no children of their own, they enjoyed their godchildren as well as the children of their friends. Their nieces and nephews were also very special to them. In addition to her beloved husband, Lois was predeceased by her father on December 23, 1985, her mother on August 20, 1997 and her in-laws, Donald and Mary Hinchliffe. Lois spent winters in Weslaco Texas, where she had a host of friends and a variety of interests. She continued to maintain close ties with the Swan River Valley and her friends and family there. She was an ardent letter-writer and faithfully remembered birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions with cards, notes and flowers. As well as her relatives and large extended family, her passing will be sadly mourned by Jack Fraser and all those who knew her as a loving friend. A memorial service will be held from the St. James Anglican Church in Swan River, Manitoba on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Marcel Archambault officiating. Following the service Lois’s cremated remains will be placed to rest in the Birchwood Cemetery, Swan River, Manitoba. Should friends so desire, memorial donations in Lois’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, or the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
