FRIESEN: John (March 8, 1912 June 14, 2009). With great sadness we announce the passing of John Friesen at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon. John will be lovingly remembered by Mary, his wife of 65 years, sons Carl, Phillip (Madelaine), daughter Marlies (Edward), son Frank (Jeanne), daughter Karin (Robert), grandchildren Rachelle (James), Ainsley, Meghan, Camille (Andrew), Krista, Elise (Christopher John), Lorraine, Julia, Simon (Grace), Caitlin (Stefan), Hailley (Brady), Alexander and David. John was born in the village of Herzenberg, Ukraine. He was the third youngest of ten children. The family immigrated to Canada in 1926. He lived and farmed in the Griswold district until 1991, retiring in Brandon. Dad accepted the Lord as his personal saviour at age 50. He married Mary Dick on October 24, 1944. John was always concerned for his familys well being, spiritually and educationally. He sat on the local school board. He taught the value of hard work and saving resources. John was predeceased by his five brothers, three sisters and is survived by one sister, Helen Klassen. The Funeral Service will be held at the Richmond Park Mennonite Brethren Church, 1525-26th Street, on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Dave Ens officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee (M.C.C.), Manitoba, 134 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 5K9.
