HIEBERT: The death of Annie Hiebert occurred at her residence, Valleyview Care Centre on June 17, 2009. She was born on July 20, 1910 in Lichtfelde, Molochna Colony, Russia, to Isaac and Helena Steingard. They had a hard life there. There was often not enough to eat. The family managed to get out of Russia just before the Communists took over. They emigrated to Canada in 1924, arriving in Niverville, Manitoba. Her father found work on farms, especially at Rosenort. Annie also found work with a local farmer, a bachelor, Jacob Hiebert, whom she later married. Annie and Jacob were married at Rosenort on October 4, 1925. They moved to Lowe Farm in approximately 1928, where five children were born. The dirty 30’s as they are called, were tough times for the growing family. In the 1940’s they managed to attend church once in a while, despite the distance and nothing much to travel with. She had accepted the Lord as her Saviour earlier, and in the later 1940’s was baptized and joined the Grossweide Church at Horndean. In 1950, they moved to the Rivers area settling on a farm just south of the Rivers Airport. Her pride and joy was her abundant garden and yellow roses she had planted at the house. Among her favorite Bible passages could well be Psalm 103, “Praise the Lord O my soul, Praise His Holy Name. Praise the Lord O my soul and forget not all his Benefits.” Among those many benefits would certainly be - food on the table for family and friends and good health. In the early 2000’s, she experienced some health problems and was hospitalized in the Rivers Hospital. On November 24, 2003 she entered the Valleyview Care Centre in Brandon. While there, she would ask, as summertime came, “Are my roses blooming yet?” The family would often go up and get some and bring them to her. Eventually the home farm was sold to the neighboring Hutterite colony- Deerboine. She resided at Valleyview Care Centre about 5 1Ž2 years, where she received tender loving care. She passed away peacefully with no pain or suffering on June 17, 2009. Annie predeceased by her husband Jacob Martin Hiebert in 1981. She leaves to mourn her passing: four sons and one daughter, John (Frieda), Victor, Henry, Gladys (John Braun) and Arthur, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
