GREGORY: Lynda Joyce Gregory, nee Hlady passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009 after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. Her sense of humour and courage were with her until the end. She is survived by her loving husband Wally Gregory, her parents Mary and Henry Hlady, her daughters, Terry (Gord) Yurett of Winnipeg and Tanis (Mike) Kent of Trail, B.C. Her loss is mourned by her step-daughters, Michele Gregory (Reinhard Hummel)) of Germany and Hayley Gregory as well as her cherished grandchildren, Alicia Hummel and Jessie Large. Lynda will be sadly missed by her sister, Judith (Dunc) Grierson and brother Ron (Jayne) Hlady of Calgary as well as relatives in her extended family of Plowmans, Hladys, Gregorys, Yuretts and Griersons. Lynda was born in Brandon on March 31, 1947 attending school and learning to play the violin through the BU School of Music. She attended many music camps but gave up her studies in 1965 to marry Murray Chodak and raise their daughters. During that time Lynda also worked at a private construction firm for 14 years before going to the provincial government and retiring from the Dept. of Highways in 2002. Lynda and Wally started their new life together in 1989 and married in 1994. They worked towards their retirement and had fun doing it. They owned a cabin in the Grey Owl Estates at Clear Lake and spent many enjoyable hours snowmobiling and fishing. After their retirement they were able to spend several winters in Mesa, Arizona where Lynda played with the Melo-Tones, a local dance band. Wally and Lynda also golfed and bowled in Arizona making many good friends. Lynda also had many friends in Brandon as she made a point of keeping in contact with old friends whether from high school, the neighbourhood, work or recreation. Although Lynda enjoyed hobbies like sewing and gardening (in the spring she worked at the Green Spot), spending time with her grandchildren, and doing many hours of volunteer work, her love was the Brandon Community Orchestra. She spent many rewarding years playing the violin and serving on the executive. Donations in her memory can be made to this registered charity, Brandon Community Orchestra c/o D-3000 Victoria Avenue Brandon MB R7B 3Y3 or a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. following a private interment at the Madford Cemetery, Douglas district. Rev. Barb Jardine will officiate. Lynda said: "Why am I here?" and the Lord said: "Everything you have gone through has prepared you for this. You will be an Angel and watch over all those you love and all those who loved you. Your task will be great as there are so many."Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com.
