ANDREWS: After a courageous battle with cancer, Edward Brown Andrews passed away at the Glenboro Personal Care Home on Sunday June 21, 2009 at the age of 83. Brown is survived by his daughter Bev (Rob) Andrews-Johnson of Brandon, Manitoba, sons Ron (Diane) of Calgary, Alberta and their sons Dustin and Ty, and by Barry (Lorie) of Brandon, Manitoba and their sons Jason and Scott. He is also survived by his sister Evelyn Andrews of Melita and sister-in-law Hazel Andrews of Souris, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Leila, wife Wilma Andrews (nee Fraser) and his brother Donald. Brown was born on June 7, 1926, lived on the family farm while attending schools in Coulter, Coultervale and Waskada during his youth and then worked on the farm for a few years before starting to work for the Manitoba Pool Elevators in 1952. Brown married Wilma on July 3, 1953. He was offered his first elevator in Tilston and moved there in 1953. After spending three years in Tilston he accepted a new position with Manitoba Pool Elevators in Nesbitt. Brown faced one of the biggest challenges in his life when he was severely injured in the elevator spending months recovering in both Wawanesa and Winnipeg hospitals. Brown was always involved in the community, coaching sports and supporting the Lions Club in Wawanesa. In 1972 Brown accepted the managers position at the Glenboro Pool Elevator and worked there until his retirement in 1987. Wilma loved to travel, so they started traveling enjoying trips to Hawaii, Cuba, Texas, Costa Rica, Palm Springs, Portugal, the Panama Canal, and Florida. Brown and Wilma really enjoyed the Glenboro community, the church and taking part in the local events with many close friends. He continued to work part time for Kimberly Clark until 1996, purchasing flax in the region for their business. He wanted to support the community and even after retiring from the elevator he continued to volunteer as an ambulance driver until the age of 65 and worked for the Meals on Wheels Program. Brown faced some further challenges later in life overcoming prostate cancer and other illnesses, but he still looked forward to his time with family and friends at home, the lake, curling rink, on the golf course and at the Drop-In Centre playing some snooker. Brown was a very proud and caring brother, husband, father, grandfather and good friend who will be remembered and dearly missed by all of us. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 in the Glenboro United Church with Reverend Mike Williams officiating. Interment followed at the Glenboro Cemetery. Memoriams in Browns memory can be given to Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9 or a charity of choice.
