FERGUSON: Robert Brown, 1915-2009. Robert (Bob) Ferguson passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on June 22, 2009 at the age of 93. He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Isabelle, his son Ron (Bev) of Abbotsford, B.C., grandchildren Cathy (Ron) Stanbra and Jennifer (Phil) McEwan; his daughter Carole (Phil) Hall, grandchildren Dave (Lisa) Hall, Trista (Mike) Godfrey, and Rob (Joanne) Hall, as well as five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by younger brother Gord (Sheila) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Annie Jane (1939), father Robert and brothers Bill, Doug and Hugh. Bob was born September 16, 1915 and raised on the Ferguson homestead under the watchful eye of father “Pop” Ferguson, family cook and helper Joe Glover and two older and two younger brothers. He attended the local one room school in Cornwallis. Bob was a trainman with CNN for over 30 years and retired in 1975. From then on, time was spent penning and raising pheasants at the Ferguson farm and as his son-in-law’s right hand man at Brentwood Mobile Home Park. He also gardened and considered his home and his lawn his pride and joy. Even after Isabelle moved to Hillcrest Personal Care Home three years ago, Bob was determined to live in the home they had owned together for almost 40 years and happily puttered around the yard and house. Faithful dog Sam accompanied him where ever he went, from shooting gophers to picking corn to sitting in the backyard soaking up the sun. Bob enjoyed golfing at the Rec Centre Golf Course, usually accompanied by his devoted wife Isabelle; he played his last round shortly after his 93rd birthday last fall. In earlier years, Bob was an avid hunter, spending special times with nieces and nephews Val, June and Vern, and spouses. He fished for trout and pickerel both in summer and winter, but seemed to particularly love ice fishing, no matter how cold the day. Brother Hugh and nephew Jim often accompanied him on fishing trips to Oak Lake and Pelican Lake. Interment and memorial were held on June 26, 2009 with Mona Franklin officiating and special tributes given by son-in-law Phil and grandchildren Trista and Rob. Husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, you will be missed.
