CASTLE: Ila Annie Louisa (nee Angus). May 11, 1915 - July 5, 2009. After a short illness, Ila passed away peacefully at 94 years at Valleyview Care Centre where she made her home for the last 3 1/2 years, with so many caring and wonderful people. She will be remembered by friends at her prior home of many years at Colonial Estates. Ila worked at Brandon General Hospital for 14 years as a nursing assistant and six years at Eaton's shoe department. She donated to the Red Cross for many years and canvassed for the Cancer Society and the Heart & Stroke Fund. Ila enjoyed many trips seeing most of Canada and traveling to the U.K. and Europe and cruising Alaska and Panama. Ila and her late husband, Charlie, spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona and summers at Clear Lake enjoying their love of fishing, a tradition they passed on to their two sons, Ray and Ivan, and their wives Janet and Joyce. Ila was predeceased by her husband Charles, her eldest son Ivan, brothers Dunc and Garnet, sisters Lily, Audrey, Marie and Nita. Surviving siblings are her brother Russell Angus of Brandon and her sister Sadie Brown in Edmonton. Ila will be missed by her loving daughter Patricia Casselman (nee Castle) and husband Jack. Ila had five grandsons, Robin, Arnold, Warren, Brent and David and six great-grandchildren. Also the many nieces and nephews she cared about. She enjoyed outings with niece Colleen and had a special affection in her heart for niece Verna. Ila was president of the Residents' Council at Valleyview Care Centre where she was the voice of the residents, working to enhance their environment in harmony with the residents staff, who much appreciated Ila's cooperation, humor and fun attitide. Newly arriving residents were graciously and kindly greeted by Ila to help their adjusting to their new home. The many activities were always a joy along with many extra-ordinary people at Valleyview, one being good friend Lorne, who taught her to enjoy Bingo. Ila appreciated all the volunteers that contributed to the social programs and she enjoyed the church groups and having clergy visits. She loved the get togethers with music and singing that "made everyone forget about aches and pains". A special "Thank You" to Dr. Egan for her wonderful comfort and care, and "Thank You" Pastor Wiittmeier for his special words and song of praise. "Thank You" to everyone for making Mom's last years memorable and a joy. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Valleyview Care Centre in Ila's memory. At Ila's request, the immediate family will have a private graveside memorial service. Ila wishes that we celebrate knowing her and each other and not to mourn."Please remember Ila with a smile and grace."
