CHAMBERS: Chambers, Robert (Bob) Bruce passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre with his son by his side on Sunday, July 5, 2009 after a brief battle with cancer. Bob was born September 4, 1942 and grew up on the Chambers' dairy farm, north of Brandon. He attended Bloomsbury school in Elton Municipality from grade one until grade nine and finished his schooling at Brandon Collegiate. In 1968, he attained his private pilots license. He took over the dairy operation from his father, Bruce, and eventually purchased his own dairy farm just northwest of Forrest. He sold the dairy in 1974, but kept and continued to work the land, and eventually purchased the Forrest elevator with partners David Nicol and Harvey Paterson. It was during his farming days that he would embark on very eventful road trips with Dave and Harvey in search of quality used farm equipment. In 1985, he started working at CFB Shilo (Base Transport). In 1988, Bob stopped farming and made working at Shilo his career and worked there until his passing, always talking about retiring, but never quite managing to do so. While farming he would fill the winters driving transport trucks for Arnold Brothers, Pete Quintaine, and Terry Hillis. It was during his time working for Terry that he and Terry began a long lasting friendship. Bob had a love for family, friends, and travel and was able to combine the three by visiting friends and family in such places as Vancouver, Calgary, Lethbridge, Regina, Boston, New Orleans, Graceland, Santa Barbara, Maine, and Denver. He was a passionate researcher of his family ancestry and was also very interested in the history of Brandon and the surrounding area. He was naturally curious and loved to chat about many different topics with his family and friends. His standing Saturday lunch date with Terry was always something he looked forward to. Bob was predeceased by his parents Bruce and Dori Chambers. He is survived by his son Jeff (Amber) Chambers, daughter Erin (Matt) Upton, grandchildren Aiden, Mya, and Benjamin, sister Donna (Roger) Taylor and brother Ron (Brigida) Chambers. A Celebration of Bobs Life was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on July 9, 2009 with Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood of Central United Church officiating. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bob may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, Cancer Services, 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com.
