GABEL: Evelyn Helena Gabel {nee Miller] 1912 - 2009. Sadly we announce the peaceful passing of Evelyn in the evening of August 10, 2009, with her usual grace, dignity and wit. She was still stoic and determined to reach her 97th birthday on August 23rd. Her wit and wisdom were enjoyed by us till the end.. After failing health recently, she went into care at the BDN.ASS. Hospital where she went to meet her Heavenly father. Evelyn will be sadly missed by her many friends at Lion's Manor in Brandon where she has resided the last eight years, enjoying the company of many. Also mourning her passing are nieces and nephews : Patricia Scott (Rowan), Florida; Betty Arnason, Thunder Bay; Isabel Simonyi (Miller) British Columbia; Bill Miller. Saskatchewan; Ian and Alice Van Norman, Kelowna, British Columbia. Joyce and George Farmer, Okotoks, Alberta; and many great friends, especially Abe and Alice Drieger of Brandon ; and "lifelong" "DOTTER" Bessie Marie Hill of Winnipeg, Ernestine Workman of California. Evelyn was predeased by her husband, Jack in 1992, her parents, Ben and Jenny Miller, and siblings Clarence, Laura Rowan, Hazel Arnason, Jean and Clayton and Arnold Arnason. Evelyn was born at Lenore, Manitoba, in 1912, the youngest child of Ben and Jenny Miller. She received her education in Lenore School and later attended Brandon Collegiate. Jack Gabel and Evelyn were married on the farm on July1, 1934, and spent ten days camping at Clear Lake, Manitoba, for their honeymoon. They continued to farm the "home Place" as a very succesfull team endeavour.,untill their retirement in 1974 when they moved to Brandon. Evelyn was a very creative and artistic woman with her sewing, crochetting, knitting and ceramics but especially gardening, which she never missed a year in planting a few veggies and flowers, including this spring! She loved to sit on her balcony and watch her flowers grow. The family wants to thank the staff at Assiniboine Hospital for their care and kindness these past few weeks. Many special thanks to Abe and Alice Drieger, Ian and Alice van Norman for their unfailing love and care during the last difficult days, never leaving Evelyn alone. We will miss our dear friend. Creamation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at Breadalbane Cemetery at Lenore, Manitoba on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.
