ANTONAKIS: Dimitrios of Brandon passed away at Brandon Regional Health Centre on August 13, 2009. Dimitrios was born May 2, 1916 in Karditsa, Greece, the son of Constantine and Eleni antonakis. As a young teenager he joined the Greek Army and he served in the Second World War. Soon after on April 26, 1952 he married his wife of 56 years, Olga. As times were tough for him and Olga they made the tough decision to send their sons Gus and Paul to Canada and to Brandon at the very early age in search of a better life. In 1976 he came to Brandon for a visit and he never went back. He worked for a couple of years at Triffon’s Pizza where Gus was the owner and a few years at Paul’s Restaurant the chicken corner. He was predeceased by his wife Olga and his son Gus. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Paul (Fotina) grandchildren Dimitri, Lefteri, Steve and Alexa, sisters Maria, Mahi, brother Laki (Irene) and many friends and relatives in Canada and Greece. He was laid to rest on Monday, August 17, 2009 at Brandon Cemetery.
