HUNT: Ernest Ralph Hunt,September 20, 1921 - January 15, 2009. On Thursday, January 15, 2009 peacefully, at the Oakview Extendicare, Ernie passed away at the age of 87. He leaves to mourn his sisters Alice and Irene and brother George, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Jessie Hunt, sister Gwen and step brother Robert. We would like to thank the 3rd floor staff at Oakview Extendicare on Ness Avenue, Winnipeg for the care and compassion shown to Ernie during his lengthy stay. Ernie worked on the home farm until he joined the Army in 1943. He served overseas with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and was in combat duty in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Upon his discharge from the Army in 1945 he once more farmed the home place with his aged father. In 1959 He decided to sell the farm, and was then employed by the Department of Highways and made his home in Hartney. In the late sixties Ernie made his home in Flin Flon. He became a faithful employee of the Imperial Oil Company and worked there for many years delivering fuel oil and gasoline in Flin Flon and to many First Nations and northern parts. Ernie retired in Flin Flon in 1986. He returned to Winnipeg in 1998 residing with Hoss and June Egdell until his health required him to move to Oakview Place. Funeral services for Ernie will be held on Saturday September 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Hartney United Church. Internment to follow at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice. Always remembering Ernie in the still and quiet, under the trees by the lake.
