EROS: Paul Stanley Eros passed away peacefully on August 31, 2009 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 82. He was born in Eden, Manitoba on July 5, 1927 to Stephen Edward and Mary Ann (nee Speiss) Eros. Paul was predeceased by his eldest brother Jack, and his beloved wife of 55 years, Thelma. He will be sadly missed by his four children Albert (Bev), Marilyn (Ken) Rowan, Doug, Ron (Ronda); his seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He will also be remembered by his brother Dan Eros and sister Pearl Drysdale, both of Calgary. Paul spent his school years in both Eden and Neepawa. He enjoyed big band music and played drums for the Blackhawks in the 1940's and 50's as well as other orchestras around Neepawa. A talented musician, he played both trumpet and sousaphone in the Neepawa Lions Band. Early in his years, Paul worked for Massey-Harris, Murray's Garage and Texaco in Neepawa. In 1961, Paul joined Massey-Ferguson as Special Sales and as District Representative. Paul left Massey in 1969 and began his career at the City of Brandon with the Engineering Department, followed in 1973 as Assistant Recreation Coordinator until his retirement in 1991. Paul enjoyed his volunteer work whether with world curling, youth baseball, or hockey. He especially enjoyed the opportunity to be Mayor ofthe athletes village for the 1979 Canada Games. He was a charter member of the Neepawa Elks Lodge and member of the Masonic Lodge at Minnedosa and Past Master of the Neepawa Masonic Lodge in 1959. He made friends wherever he traveled and loved to visit with them, whether it was over a cup of coffee at 'the mall' or by long and regular telephone conversations to the British Isles. His real passion was gardening. He loved his vegetable garden and his many flowers. He was out in the garden up until the last few weeks of his life. A special thank you to the many dedicated and caring healthcare professionals who provided compassionate care over the past eight months in his battle with lung cancer. He appreciated all the visits and phone calls made by family and friends. At his request, cremation has taken place. Aprivate Graveside Ceremony will be held at the Neepawa Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
