HITCHEN: Alan Trevor Hitchen passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, August 26, 2009. Alan was born in Manchester, England on February 14, 1938 to Arthur and Evelyn Hitchen. He was raised in St. Annes-on-Sea, Lancashire, England with his six siblings. Alan completed Grammar school in Lytham/St. Annes. He briefly played professional soccer with the Blackburn Rovers before enlisting in the Royal Air Force from 1956to 1965. After an honourable discharge from the Air Force, he began a career in banking which brought him to Canada where he held various management positions with the Royal Bank in Calgary. Alan finished his working life with a career in the Federal Government working with Revenue Canada before retiring at the age of 60 as a Customs and Immigration Officer in Wild Horse, Alberta. He was a member of the Royal Air Force Police Association. Over the years, Alan enjoyed positions with various community groups including Cub Scout Leader and a Lions Club member. Earlier in life, he enjoyed activities such as golf, soccer, curling, and fishing. In the later years, he enjoyed following his favorite sports teams on television and was a strong supporter of Manchester United. Alan enjoyed reconnecting with colleagues and school friends via the internet. Alan will be forever remembered by his wife, Dorothy; children: Graham (Karen), Ian (Stacey), Julie (Lonny) Taylor; grandchildren: Steven, Hannah, Marcus, Megan, and Keith. He is also survived by siblings: Arthur, Maureen, Roy, and Helen. Alan was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Evelyn; brothers: Derek and Brian. A private family service was held at Memories Chapel on Monday, August 31, 2009.
