GAMEY: Mae Delyte Gamey (Pirie). Mae was born in Strathclair on May 16, 1922 to Alex and Sara Pirie and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sept. 13, 2009. She completed all her schooling in Strathclair and in 1939-40 completed a Diploma in Dressmaking and Design. In October 1943 she married Lawrence Wesley Gamey, They had 3 children, Douglas Richard, (Marilyn), Muriel Mavis and a chosen son Joe Bentley (Leslie). She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sister Velma and her son, Joe. While raising her family, Mae also cared for a number of foster children and was active in the Baptist church as a Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent, Choir Leader, and Organist. She made all the family clothes, and constantly demonstrated concern for others by supplying food and clothes for those in need. In 1976 Mae & Lawrence moved to Brandon. Lawrence died in July 1980. Mae worked as a seamstress at a dress shop for 8 years and then privately till 1997 when she returned to Strathclair. Designing and making beautiful clothes was a life long passion Although she was in frequent pain from severe osteoporosis, she maintained her sense of humor and optimistic outlook until the end. A celebration of Mae’s life was held Sept. 17 at the Strathclair Baptist Church.
